Steven, I think you're doing whatever you've been raised to think is right for yourself. You're afraid of letting people down, of people thinking you're too unreliable or weak to help... But remember, you're the person they love. Isn't someone they love worth being helped too? Deep breaths and little steps, Steven. You're a fantastic person but you need a break. (The sadistic anons certainly aren't helping you!) Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love and trust. Here comes a thought.

sushinfoodĀ replied to yourpost:[[MOR] so⦠iāve defended steven plenty here, but...
Jasper was abusing him. She repeatedly beat the shit out of a confused and desperate teenaged boy under the guise of it being training. Training involves absolutely zero physical and mental abuse, both of which she continually inflicted on him. She forced him beyond his comfort zone again and again and rewarded cruelty and callousness. She made him into the one who wouldnāt hold back. In the end, the differences between them were immense but Steven did not intend to kill
?????
do you. do you have any idea how strong steven is. at no point during training did jasper ābeat the shit out of himā. you are literally writing fanfiction here.Ā
she dropped a rock on him because itās a damn test that they both agreed to, and he can easily handle that. they were both toxic in using aggression to deal with their feelings, but heĀ is not a mere ~confused and scared teenage boy, and she is not some supervillain adult who tried to hurt him in these scenes.Ā
sheās being harsh the same way like... li shang is harsh on mulan. itās vicious, yes! and itās not a healthy outlet for either of them! but itās the training they agreed to. thereās a long way between that and outright abuse.
also... please re-read the transcript or something. she doesnāt say a single cruel or abusive thing while theyāre training. the closest thing is telling him toĀ āshut upā because he teased her, and then goading him into using more power when the fight starts. teasing him to prove he isnāt āweakā is like... not even remotely the worst behavior iāve seen from a damn football coach. itās not nice of her, but come on. have some nuance.Ā
i take abuse very seriously, but This Aināt It. the narrative at no point frames it like she has unjust power over him. if anything, it portrays them as nearly equally messed up.Ā
this is such an overdramatification that i am completely void of words. literally the only true thing you said here is that he didnāt intend to kill, which iāve already agreed to several times. i do not intend to vilify either, but you are reading way, WAY more malice into jasper here than necessary or justified.
sushinfood replied to your post: Told myself I wouldnāt but I need a moment. So...
I felt that too, the desire to hurt because of how much I was hurt. It hurt seeing it in Steven.
SU: Future in a nutshell has just had me doing like, uncomfortable amounts of self-reflection. Glad to know I aināt alone with that. Tho that feels kind of shitty to say. ;w;

Especially given that his reactions were specifically because the gems were infantilizing him and ignoring his life

Depression is the worst. Iām rooting for you.
thank you.
sushinfood replied to your post: great, more depressing stuff with Steven Universe....
Steven getting important advice from Garnet that your significant other should never be someone to fill a hole in you is a good conclusion. Itās especially important given women are expected to fix men and end up in abusive relationships because of it. How was Steven talking to his dad in the second one not a good end? Heās starting to own up.
Oh yeah, that was good stuff, donāt get me wrong, I guess I wish it did end with Connie showing up as well as his dad in that last scene.Ā
sushinfood ha respondido a tu publicación āSo, about this Steven⦠Well, we know that Steven can shapeshift right?...ā
Exactly. He's trying to protect himself by becoming someone she can't hurt.
Thats an interesting take, too
