Schuler Review - 12.14.19 - “Cerberus Milk” by Amanda Struver Which comes first - the chicken or the egg? I don’t know if this is a turkey or a chicken. With Struver it’s hard to tell. Mythical beast, creature or something. Mutation. Mutation from a nuclear fallout? Experiment gone wrong? Probably not for the greater good. I thought it was a fake egg at first. Was wrong. Went splat. This creature won a prize. A prize for being an oddity. Spiritually the creature and the costume are linked, but they take different forms. One is a symbol on an empty suit, the other isn’t wearing any suit. There’s gold dust on the floor and fireplace. Is it there to help the sculptures stand out, or just seasoning for the meat? They are eating and feasting on themselves to death. Like when the grease flows out of a chicken in the oven and goes to the bottom of the pan. Of course you can’t just pour that down into the sink. Fat clogs the drains and stuff, bad for the plumbing. Also bad for the people who eat the chicken, but fat is delicious. Everything in moderation. You have to wonder about stuff that is called fat free - is it really fat free? Fat free is supposed to be good for us - but really? Warhol said something like “in the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Celebrities think they should be famous for more than 15 minutes. I choose to ignore pop culture - you can try to be famous, but after 15 minutes is up you don’t exist. Onces the flash is off you are nowhere. The light crumples after it is used. . Schuler Review - 11.17.2019 - Utopia or Oblivion at Bunker Projects Tinted windows filter the sunlight. Neon on the ceiling, color covering the colorless hands. Calming music. Everything is out in the open. Hands of a manikin, cobwebs, smart phones, wires, and stuff. It’s like being in the future, 2021 plus two. The grids reminds me of that Sci-fi movie The Matrix or something like that. The reflection in the pink is like looking into the mirror of The Wizard of Oz. I don’t know why I keep thinking about lofts, but if I had a loft I would decorate it like this. While great as an installation, these pieces can also work individually. The hands and faces are white to be the presence of all colors. I am thinking about color through my physicist side of the brain. Different spin on the idea of technology, makes you question how extraordinary life really is. It’s nice to look forward to new technologies, and not look back at say the 60s and 70s. Schuler Review - 10.27.2019 - Tram’s Kitchen Very satisfying, fresh, light, and yet filling. Good on cold days, good on warm days. Good when you have a cold and good when you’re just hungry. I had a big bowl of beef Hanoi Pho, two fresh spring rolls, and an iced green tea. The pho was perfectly seasoned, not too salty. I thought the pho tasted really good straight from the kitchen, so I didn't add any of the numerous extras.The spring rolls come paired with a savory peanut butter sauce dipping sauce. The green tea was wonderfully sweet and refreshing, it complimented the meal well. It was pretty quiet in Tram’s. No music, and people aren’t talking. They’re really too busy eating. Everyone had a bowl of soup in front of them that was as big as their heads. The soup was a little messy to eat, but very worth the mess. With such a big bowl of soup it is impossible not to have a little mess, right? Trying to eat this without a table would be impossible, very impossible. David copperfield might be the only person who could eat this without a table. He’d get the bowl of soup to levitate. Tram’s Kitchen is certainly no Eat’n Park. Better than Eat’n Park? Possibly cheaper too. At Eat’n Park you can’t get pho. The menu at Tram’s is very small in comparison to Eat’n Park. Schuler Review - 10.20.2019 - Carolyn Wilder’s “I Saw it on T.V. (Yum Yum)” Part III - Utz by Flavor CRAB CHIPS: Spicy. No, tangy. Very tangy, in fact. Reminiscent of homemade crab cakes. My mom used to make crab cakes, doesn’t have time anymore. Highly recommended. Would pair well with potato crowns and a glass of refreshing water. RED HOTS: Hot. Hot! Oh no. After cooling off, I would call this a little too hot. Couldn’t eat a whole bag. Buffalo wings without ranch dressing. Would not do this again. SOUR CREAM & ONION: I’ve bought these at the store several times. A sweet flavor, very soothing, especially after a Red Hot. I’ve had these with hamburgers. Strong associations with Summer foods, like hot dogs. Would pair well with fresh iced tea. I suppose these would go well on a salad? HONEY BARBECUE: Sweet. Less busy than the Red Hots, much better. Reminds me of ribs, naturally. Would pair with a cheeseburger, savory and sweet, and a glass of lemonade. You don’t know what you’re missing. ZAPP’S VOODOO: Highly unusual! Nothing easy about it. It’s a little spicy at first, but then everything else is tangy. Or is it sour? Reminiscent of a common pickle. Enjoy with spare ribs and ice water, or on their own. You won’t know what hit you! ZAPP’S SPICY CAJUN CRAWTATORS: Interesting. Unexpectedly buttery. Tastes like a crawfish, presumably. The gentlemen’s Crab Chip. Not very spicy, just very good. I’ve never had crawfish before but I have had lobster tail, if that’s anything like crawfish. Would probably eat with a lobster tail. Just go all out.
