First of all, I want to say one thing.... if you can support your local occult store, or even a small online one.. I STRONGLY suggest taking this route. Support each other. It's a community regardless of practice.

That being said, here are my tips if you are trying to be discreet or have a small budget.

Tea shops - some local or online tea shops will have certain herbs for sale for a little cheaper. Plus side to this you can tell people you just make your own teas.

Healthy/natural stores with BULK sections. Sometimes these have spice sections and you can get a good chunk, not all, but a large portion of herbs here for relatively cheap. Now I just filled 8 jars of mine for about 5 to 10 dollars.

Buy small portions, you only need a tbsp or two to start out. If someone is trying to sell you 5lbs of lavender for 40 bucks... dont do it unless you plan on using that amount in a decent time frame.

Use what you have to prevent spoilage, save money, and keep "fresh" stock.

STORE YOUR HERBS IN A DRY PLACE IN AIR PROOF JARS. THEY WILL MOLD EVEN IF THEY ARE DRIED. DO NOT USE MOLDY, BAD HERBS FOR ANYTHING. THROW THEM AWAY. (This goes with 3 and 4)

Ask friends or family if they have a few spices you could have if they have any excess. Thank them properly please. Dont be an asshole.

Grow your own and dry them, I've done this with things laying around the house. Not the quickest way though.
