And I put this on a pagan hot takes blog saying that I feel isolated from the community because of it.

The majority of responses were variations of "what the fuck" and "you don't need acceptance, your practice is yours" which. Great. Second one is easier said than done. I may not be a human inside but my brain chemistry is very much human and I still am a social creature as such.

I also can't find much on spells without them "drawing on another power", which doesn't feel nice to me. The power I call on should be mine.

For one, many people find their religious beliefs discounted because of their intellectual disability, mental disorder, cognitive difference, neurodivergency, personality disorder, and/or psychosis. The ableist standard at play here is that if someone's thinking deviates from the "typical" thinking, they cannot determine their own religion or might be doing religion "wrong". This is what occurred in yesterday's submission.

Also, people discount paganism because the deities are "too different", "too hard to talk to", "too hard to understand", or "dont give clear signals". The idea that relationships with differences in communication aren't worthwhile is ableist. Beings and non-beings do not have to talk like you or give the same signals as you to form a relationship with them.

Furthermore, animism is also discounted along similar ableist lines. If a being or non-being doesn't have similar emotions, thoughts, or understandable/relatable existence, that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be respected. Someone's existence might look very different from yours, but it is not any lesser or less deserving of respect.

I calmly explained that I never asked for his help, that since I’m not Catholic it made me deeply uncomfortable for him to do that without my consent, and explained my own opinion about my situation. To which he said, “well, now I understand what my pastor was talking about when he warned me about the evils of paganism.”

I cut him off once I got home and he’s been ranting to my friend about how he’s praying for me and “can’t save me,” how he doesn’t feel bad about this at all because “he was just trying to help and that’s the message I was told to give her” and he’s been posting prayers to Archangel Michael on his Instagram about “driving out the forces of evil from the world and protecting from the snares of the Devil” etc. 🫩
