Have you ever heard of Hendery Wong? 💖

He’s...Well, yes, he’s unbelievably handsome.

It’s one of the first things people notice about him, really—

He’s all big eyes, chiseled jawline, longish black hair, and wide smile (not that he shows it very often)

But he has that beautiful, sharply cut profile that even Michaelangelo or Raphael would envy, the kind that makes angels weak and marble statues pale in comparison.

And yet.

He’s still not the most noticeable guy in the room.

He’s smart, he’s kind, and he’s patient—

Also one of the sweetest people in the world.

But perhaps it’s the way he carries himself, his humility, the fact that he’s the youngest out of 4 with 3 strong older sisters, the way he slouches despite the fact that he isn’t even short—

He’s too sweet, too kind, for this world.

Sometimes he hides his eyes under a curtain of his tousled ebony hair;

He’s still beautiful, but does he know that?

He’s so talented, he’s one of the best rappers, has a wonderful voice, and has such grace and flexibility when dancing...

...and yet no one pays him any mind.

Or, if they do, it’s not what he deserves—he’s more than some rich Macau kid...they don’t know him like you do.

But that’s their loss.

Why?

Because Hendery as a boyfriend would be the sweetest ever—

He’s totally the type who’d start off as really just friends at first.

I mean, just imagine,

He’s that guy in the corner of the room with the wide smile and mischievous glint on his eye,

Not many would notice him, though there would be whispers,

Rumors about him, his talent, his looks, whether he’s rich or not, whether he’s cool or not, how handsome he seems, what a waste that he’s so quiet (not that they really care), etc. etc. etc.

And, well,

the thing is...

He was the first person you noticed when you entered the room.

Even if he was in the corner,

even if he was just slightly off center,

He was the first person you noticed,

There was a sparkle in his eyes when they met yours,

And...well...

You’ve never gone back ever since.

He seems like that type of guy who’d ask you out by shooting a paper plane onto your desk,

But Hendery is too shy for that.

Why? He should be more confident?

But in reality, despite his looks, and despite his sort of fancy reputation, Hendery is the softest boy ever.

He’s totally that type of guy who would gaze at you tenderly from across the room, watching you write things down, before gathering up the courage to ask you out.

And it’ll be so cute, the way he shoots you glances from across the room, starts messaging you bit by bit with his phone, before straight up hovering in front of you to ask if you want to go see some movies or something.

Hendery is actually very shy—

It’s just that most people don’t notice it...or notice him...

And, let’s face it,

His reputation precedes him.

But don’t let that fool you.

Hendery is that kind of guy you read about in romance novels,

He’s that type of guy who you would call The Great Love.

Like, that big, mind-blowing, life-changing relationship in your life.

Hendery would be that one you would recognize as your soul mate.

For all his fine features, he’s the softest boy of them all—

“I like pink.”

He’s very, very shy~

But he’s very, very talkative once he gets to know you better.

Not just talkative, but frank

Like, “You haven’t been eating much. I’m worried about you.”

Or: “You seem quieter lately. Are you okay? Is something bothering you?”

Hendery would totally be a joker, too,

Like sure. He’d be so soft that he’d buy you flowers every anniversary—

Maybe by the month—

Or maybe by the hundredth or thousandth day—

Because he’s just that guy.

Not even just flowers; he’d go all out with a bouquet of roses,

He’d show up for your celebrations in his best suit with a large smile behind the flowers he’s holding out to you—

Speaking of his smile, Hendery’s smile is beautiful.

It’s wide, it bright, it’s white, it’s toothy,

It’s a little blinding, to be honest,

But it’s the happiest thing about him.

He has that kind of smile that’s so mesmerizing and perfect that it’s difficult to imagine him without it.

And Hendery would totally be the type to help you with your homework.

He’s the best teacher, after all,

“I’m Ten’s live-in Chinese tutor.”

But he’s so patient and sweet~

And for all his initial quietness, he’s so caring and talkative once you date him;

He’s totally the type to bring you your favorite snack,

Or write you a cute letter when you’re sad,

Or even buy your a load of medicine and herbal remedies when you’re sick.

Hendery’s just the purest and softest boy ever.

Make no mistake, he can go from extremely soft to extremely crazy at times—

Peel off his shy shell, and he’s super funny, always making you smile, and crack up, and the like~

He’s totally the type who would have a crazy dance party with you if it means cheering you up.

And he’s secretly goofy albeit sweet—

Though, of course, he becomes serious when he needs to.

Sure, he’s never going to be one of those “cool dudes”

He’s the guy who usually doesn’t go to parties,

The guy who keeps to himself most of the time;

He does have his friends, and he values them so much—

Just as how he values you.

But even if he’s not the most popular guy ever,

And remains sort of an enigma to everyone,

He has such positive, kind energy

Especially when he cares deeply for you.

Hendery may not care about popularity or always being the center stage,

Nor does he care about maintaining a certain image.

He’s just him, the softest and sweetest and shyest and purest boy ever, yet hilarious at the same time, once you get to know him better,

He brings out the best in you,

And he cares deeply for his passion and talents, he cares deeply for his parents and 3 older sisters, he cares deeply for his friends,

But most of all, he cares deeply for you.

And that—

That is why he’s your soulmate.

And that is why you call him your great love, The Great Love of your life.

Umbrella-saving, rich kid AU?

The sky is filled with dark clouds, like smoke churning across an indigo sky. Above, the stars offer little to no shine or sparkle. The sun has barely set, and yet the thunder and rain overhead swallow it whole.

You shiver as you walk out the huge, arched gateway of the academy. The cold is chilling, muffling sound and sight. You pull your coat closer to you. It was a rich, ruby-colored number that went nicely with your grid dress and black stockings. Warmer, warmer, you think to yourself.

As the raindrops petter down, you look at the heavens in dismay. Wasn’t it supposed to be nearly summer already? Why was it still raining? Not wanting your leather bookbag or yourself to get wet, you bring out your old, spiky umbrella.

You press the button. The metal contraption seems to budge and develop a light of its own. It unfurls slowly, all pointy edges and ebony cloth.

You hold the umbrella tightly, just as a huge gust of wind blows your way. You shiver. Making your way down the paved steps, you begin to go against the flow, fighting with all your might to make it past the howling wind.

Ting. It’s your iPhone vibrating softly in your coat pocket. Slinging your bookbag more tightly across your shoulder, you reach in to grab your phone and answer it. “Hello?”

“Where are you?”

You blink. “Hendery?” you say, as another torrent of rain gushes down onto your umbrella.

“That’s my name,” he deadpans.

“I know,” you say, a whisper of a smile across your face. “Hendery Wong. Wong Kunhang. How could I ever forget?”

You can feel his silent laughter from the other side of the line, and you grin to yourself in return. Hendery Wong, a snob? Definitely not.

It was true, though, the whispers across the hallway of the rich Taipan kid with a coldly beautiful face. He was quiet and kept to himself, friendly and warm when he chose to be, and hardworking above all. “But he’s a snob. Has to be. With a face like that? And a family like that? He is. Just you wait and see.”

You nearly believed it once, too.

Hendery had features like a Disney prince. Shiny black hair that was kind of longish across the forehead and along the back. Big chocolate-brown eyes. Smooth skin, an aquiline nose, and a jawline so sharp it looked like he cut his own striking features from marble.

But he was so kind. Is so kind, rather. Up to this day, he has never been cold; even when you feared him at first, you two slowly grew closer to each other. He had the brightest, most blindingly white smile you’ve ever seen. He laughed loudly and pitchedly, but even then he sounded endearing. He was your first friend, and he had the warmest soul in the world.

You two met through serendipitous circumstances at the prestigious academy. Despite his brooding face, he was always quick to grin and joke and do all sorts of crazy things possible. Best of all, he knew when to do these things—he knew when to listen to the professors or to keep to himself.

And you?

Well, you kept to yourself most of the time already, anyway. Introvert things.

“Hendery...why did you call?”

“It’s raining. Are you sure you can get back home safely?”

“Aw, thanks, but I can manage for sure. This isn’t my first thunderstorm—” A gust of wind blasts into your face, and you gasp as your umbrella turns inside-out—but, but—

A hand grabs your shoulder back. You look up, in shock. Astonished. Your umbrella flies off in slow-motion. But you’re already being turned to face something, or someone, else. A new, sturdier umbrella is above your head. You look at the hand, then look up to a familiar face. Hendery’s face.

Hendery!

You try to fight the blush in your cheeks before hoping that it’s just too dark to see anything. You smile weakly. “How did you know?”

Hendery grins. “I knew that you’d be too hard-headed to get any help in this type of weather. So I brought reinforcements.” He motions to a waiting luxury car, complete with what you believe is a chauffeur in the front seat.

You stare at the leather seats, the gleaming white outer part of the vehicle. “Hendery. I can’t.”

“Yes, you can.”

He’s so close that you can see the dark pupils in his eyes, the mark on his left chin, the grooves across his lips...

The chauffeur has probably turned away by now. Hendery smiles, and your heart skips a beat.

“Please.” He begs. “For me. I just want you to be safe.”

The rain is no longer pouring in torrents. Now they plink down with the frequency of a leaky faucet.

“Hendery, the rain is stopping. Thank you so much, though. But I can return home on my own.” You give him your biggest smile. Also I don’t think my heart can take being in the backseat of the same luxury vehicle—which you own!—as you.

Hendery pouts a bit. Gosh, you wish you could kiss his lips already. He’s so close he could probably see everything about you too, and suddenly you become conscious about everything, from your lipstick shade to the way your hair is styled to your shiny patent-leather boots.

“Are you sure?” His voice is filled with concern.

You nod. “I’m sure. Thank you...thank you so much, though.”

He pushes the umbrella handle to your hand. “Then please keep this. And remember to call me when you have arrived safely home.”

His voice contains some—dare you say it?—disappointment. And you can’t help but feel it, too. Another missed opportunity. But you know your heart would never allow something so abrupt and uneasy.

Hendery gets into his car. You wave as he rolls down his windows. “See you next week!”

“See you!”

Was it really a missed opportunity? You two smile and nod at each other wistfully as you speed across in opposite directions.

Be still, my heart.

As Hendery drives off, he waves. You wave back. He drives across into the dying sunlight. Both your smiles contain a multitude of unspoken words and secret loves. Was it really a missed opportunity, if Hendery was to go to you again? Was it the blossoming of first love?

You two are both heartfelt, wistful, but more importantly than that, innocent. So innocent.

Both of you felt the same.
