The Autism/Social Anxiety Chronicles
Aka what I've learnt from social situations and how to act (Feel free to add)
If you stutter while ordering something or need to read off a piece of paper or phone, the server won't judge you. Most of the time they're just there doing their job and if you're nervous ordering they won't mind
No one really cares if you have fidget toys. Whenever I play with them sometimes people will stare but most times they don't notice or will look at it like they want to play with it too
Sometimes I used to carry around a stuffed animal (especially on planes) and I'd never get judged. The staff usually would offer my toys water and help me feel more at ease and like I wasn't out of place
I worked retail for five years and if someone was nervous or needed extra help shopping etc, I would always help and my co-workers would always help. You don't need to feel shame for asking for help
If you make a mistake or something you did feels embarrassing, it's most likely people didn't even notice. People are usually just in their own world, and laughing it off helps
If someone shows you a picture of a baby you do the usual 'aww how wonderful, how old are they?' never use he or her because if you misgender a baby you might get punched, same goes for pets
People don't mind if you tell them you're nervous and might take extra time to answer a question
If people look annoyed when you talk about something you're passionate about, they aren't your friend. A real friend will listen and even take notes
IT'S OKAY IF SOCKS ARE YOUR ENEMY
Having really random or 'odd' triggers is fine. I get triggered by pacman
You deserve as much social time and speaking time as much as anyone else
You're allowed an opinion and a voice
Jello is either your worst enemy or best friend. No in between
(feel free to add any! And I might add more eventually)
