It was an unusually lazy morning: most of the assholes who were looking for a good kick in the teeth were dead, and nobody new had taken their place since Tuesday, so Dipper and Stan could sleep in. Dipper soaked in the morning light from their window as Stan clutched him tight, with those arms that could strangle a bear one-handed.
This couldn’t last; he knew it couldn’t. Sooner or later, one of them would fight the other over Bill’s assignments, or dinner, or whatever bullshit they felt like fighting over. Still, here in this moment, Dipper felt at peace.
