It’s a weird time of day to be at a video game arcade. Due to circumstances in your world, you wouldn’t realize that it was why the place was relatively emptied of customers. Now who would play air hockey with you? You give a half-hearted glance to your little floating companion, Burst. Its star-shaped “face” returns the glance unblinkingly. No, its “arms” were too stubby to effectively move the striker--and besides, it was loyal to you. You’re pretty sure Burst would let you win, even without commanding it to.
“... !!”
Oh, hold that thought, it seemed someone was headed to the other side of the table. Your wings perk up from their previously droopy disposition, and you eagerly stamp the striker onto the table as the other person readies their own. The table hums to life, a cushion of air making the puck in the middle float. In a naive yet courteous move, you nudge the puck gently toward Charlotte to let her move first. It’d only be fair because she humored you, right?
“You should be smiling, too. Aren’t you excited? Aren’t you happy?”

This girl is strange. Actually, ‘strange’ might not be accurate enough. Something about her reminds him of Alex, and it’s a feeling that unsettles him immensely. Normally a cute girl smiling would be a good thing, but when it’s this kid doing it... He doesn’t like it. Not one bit.
“E-Excited about what? What’s there to be happy about?” he asks, unable to keep his voice from rising an anxious step up towards the end. Jay’s not sure he wants to know what Charlotte is so gleeful about, but he asks all the same, nosy as ever. He needs to mind his own business; keep away from all these odd people. Nothing good is going to come out of it. Maybe he can still get out of this conversation before he winds up roped into something awful.
“I don’t know what you’re so worked up over, but leave me out of it, alright?”
