my masterlist
Itâs Jackâs third birthday today (yay! Our boyâs growing out of his terrible twoâs of being dead and soulless!), so I wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate both his birthday and him getting his soul back. Because think about it. He has his entire soul back. And he still has his grace. That hasnât happened since the season 13 finale. Heâs super depressed and guilty for what he did, but heâs back. Heâs whole again. I think thatâs something to celebrate, even if we donât get to see him until later this year.
Lost || Supernatural
Hey! Been a while since I managed to get my story juices flowin (apart from my hard work on the Reddie fic haha) so I decided to write a lil something here as we all suffer through the few weeks of hiatus left ^^

=============
âThe moment Castiel laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost.â â Hester to Dean Winchester; 7x21, Reading is Fundamental.
Castiel first came to be on a Thursday morning at the very beginning of Creation, when Thursday wasnât even named Thursday yet.
The minute he could exist, he knew who he was, what he was, what he was meant to do, and to not question why. Those were the instructions ingrained into his being and itâs what marked the rest of his existence in Heaven. He was an Angel of the Lord, and so he was expected to behave as such. Everyone followed the rules. Love your Father in Heaven. Obey your Father in Heaven. Serve your Father in Heaven and in return He will share his Love with you and bring forth Paradise. Castielâs Father makes promises, meaningful promises, and always keeps them; that is why the angels love him and trust him. All of His prophecies, His plans, His ideas... the angels stuck to the script to make them all come true.
Until his Father announced he was going to try something new. He was going to Create something new. He introduced the Universe, stars, galaxies, planets, Earth, the ocean, land, vegetation, animals... He introduced Life.
And then came the Humans. That was the first time the instructions changed. No longer was it just âLove your Father in Heavenâ but âLove My dearest Creation more than your Father, and you will Love Him the same.â
Angels struggled to follow through. Lucifer decided to confront their Father and, for the first time, ask why. It was the first time doubt was implanted in the angelsâ beings. And they paid the price.
Castiel never let it known how much it got to him. The doubt, he means. Once Lucifer and his angels fell, life in Heaven continued forth and everyone continued to practice their new rules by caring and protecting all life on the universe, as well as Godâs favorite Creation: Adam and Eve.
It was hard. Angels, after a while, realized that not only was it hard for them to love humans more than God, some realized they didnât really want to. So, they faked it. Pretended as if they cared, pretended they heard their prayers and offered their protection willingly. They never did. Except Castiel.
It was strange, all of it. Human beings. How they could be so much like them but so different all the same. Castiel didnât know it at the time, or frankly didnât care, but what he tried to understand was free will. Not something available for angels. Angels were not given free will. They only followed instructions. Castiel was an angel. Castiel followed instructions.
Until one day. The day the Righteous Man was born into the world.
âLook, Castiel.â Hannah mused, watching among the inmense crowd of angels as Mary Campbell-Winchester recieved her newborn child in her arms, John Winchester standing over them. âItâs him. The time has finally come.â
âWeâve waited too long,â Anael piped to their left. âIs this really the boy who will help bring forth Paradise?â
âNaturally.â Spoke Michael, and all angels drowned their countinued doubts. The archangel looked upon the babyâs soul and puffed out in pride. This was his True Vessel. His. âThe Righteous Man: the boy who will save us all.â
Another angel standing behind him sighed, âIâm jealous. You get to have the Righteous Man as your vessel. What a win.â
âIt was just meant to be, as Father predicted.â Michael smiled and lifted his gaze. It was quickly cut short as he landed on another angel opposite of him, also watching the spectacle on Earth.
To put it simply, it was impossible for Castiel to look away from the brightest soul he had ever laid eyes on (he doesnât have eyes, but you know what I mean). The glow emitting from it can only be described as ethereal. A beacon of hope, life and warmth. Something new, powerful, and otherworldly. Castiel had never seen anything like it.
âCastiel!â Came a firm, loud voice, making him jump and snap to attention. Michaelâs stone-cold stare bore onto him as every other angel witnessed. The archangel frowned. âLean back. Donât want to fall, now do you?â
It wasnât a word of worry for his brother. Only a warning.
It was with this that Castiel realized he had, in fact, leaned in way too close to the scene and sat back. He lowered his gaze in silent shame. âRight.â He said. âThank you.â
A nod from Michael and the rest of the Heavenly body continued to watch the family with no other problems. None that they were aware of atleast.
Castiel was still staring at the soul and felt himself leaning again, almost like it was luring him in. He consciously froze, mid-lean, and slowly moved back again. Strange. Very strange indeed. Did every angel feel this way?
The angel raised his gaze and swept it over every single one of his siblings. All of them were enraptured in the scene, grinning at the human baby, talking about his purpose, all the glory he would bring... no one seemed particularly troubled. He looked at Michael last, only to be met with the same prideful gleam in his being. Wings set higher, halo glowing brighter. This was his vessel after all. It was made for him. The human man was made for him. And yet...
Yet...
Why did it feel like the soul was reaching out to Castiel instead?
And why did Castiel feel like wanting to grip it tight and never letting it go? Like holding it close to him, keeping it safe and sound; protecting it from the world around it, being the one to keep it healthy, watch over it, care for it... create a bond with it...
What the hell was wrong with him?
=======
It was easy. It was so damn easy and Castiel was so damn weak.
The instructions were clear: storm Hell, take out any demon you encounter and clear the way out for Michael to reach his vessel. Simple. Not an exhausting task. So what the hell was he doing?!
They had burst into Hell as planned, Castiel leading his garrison, following Michael as he led the attack. There was an immediate response from the demons and, so, everyone was quickly thrown into chaos. Castiel, too, had been ambushed by three demons, all of which suffered a terrible fate within the ten seconds they faced him. He flew fast and swift within the fiery pits, taking out demon after demon in no amount of time. This was fine. As long as he kept to the instructions and did as he was told, it was all going to work out.
Except an hour passed and Michael still hadnât found his vessel.
Castiel has suffered several injuries now, his wings damaged, but he kept going. Sometimes he wondered if this fight wouldâve been easier had he have been under Annaâs lead, but the thought was quickly disregarded every time. No room to think. No seconds to waste. Where was Michael?! Where was the vessel?!
The angels quickly noticed the demons starting to be aware of the Celestial Captainâs absence and made to work faster. They couldnât risk being at a disadvantage. They needed to keep up, stay strong and wait until Michael succeeded.
âBut where is he?!â Castiel fumed in his mind. What was the hold up?!
âCastiel!â He turned around to find Benjamin finishing up another demon. âI think I saw Michael being ambushed a few miles away! Heâs stuck!â
Castiel nodded. âIâm on it! Keep the garrison in order!â
âHurry! The demons are starting to close the gates!
âRight,â And he flew the other way.
It took maybe another ten seconds before Castiel was swarmed with demons again. He cursed and made to try and evade them, though it was no use. By the time he turned and slayed them, there was very little time before the gates closed for good and every single angel would be trapped in Hell. Not. Good.
Luckily, Castiel made out an enormous army of demons surrounding and attacking a beacon of white. Michael.
âMichael!â Castiel called and went to swoop in and rescue his brother, but was cut off by waves of demons appearing in his face. âMichael!!!â
No use. Michael was too busy fighting to hear him. Castiel continued to slash, burn and kill every creature that approached him and managed to gain some ground. A bit later and he was free of them. Bad news: the gates were a minute away from closing for good.
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
âMichaelâ!â He froze.
Very far away, down, down below, in a sea of red and black, surrounded by chains and hooks and fire, Castiel made out a gleam of white. Was that...?
Time slowed. Everything around him blurred to nothing, all sound blocked out entirely and all he could focus on was the bright soul of the Righteous Man glowing weakly in the dark. It was him. Castiel found him.
But Michael was still under attack. âMichael!â No answer. âMICHAEL!!!â
âThe gates are closing!â Hester appeared, distress evident on her figure. âWeâre gonna be trapped down here! We gotta evacuate!â
Castiel refused, âBut, the soulâ!â
âThereâs no time!!!â Hester pleaded, moving to drag Castiel away. âLetâs go! We have to move!â
Hester grabbed at Castiel and started flying away with him, yelling out orders to retreat, fall back, anything to escape before it was too late. And thatâs when he heard it:
âHELP! HELP ME, PLEASE!! SAM?! SAM!! HELP!â
His wings froze mid-air, making Hester pull back from the abruptness. âCastiel?!â
âGOD, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!! SAMMY!!â
It wasnât his job. It wasnât his dutyâ it wasnât his damn instructionsâ
âSAM! OH GOD, SAM!!! PLEASE!! PLEASE, SAMMY!!!â
Itâs Michaelâs job, itâs his problem, he shouldnât intervene, not in this, not like this, not with thisâ!
âHELP ME! SOMEONE, ANYONE, HELP ME!!!â
He shouldnât, damn it, he shouldnâtâ!!!
Thereâs an earth-shattering scream and Castiel dives into the abyss.
âCASTIEL!â Hester screeches in alarm, watching as he flies at impossible speeds to get to the chained soul. There was no way he was leaving it like this. No way. Michael wouldnât be able to make itâ He had to helpâ!
The soul was mere feet away and Castiel outstretched his hand. If he could just grab onâ!
âCASTIEL, NO!â Came Hesterâs wail, just as Michael burst from the demon mob with a flash of white light. He had escaped. âCASTIEL!â
He could vaguely make out the shape of a human man from the chains, but that was quickly overshadowed by the alarmingly fast way the soul started glowing brighter and brighter as Castiel got closer and closer.
Almost there, almost there, I got you, Iâm here, Iâll get you out, Iâll save you, Iâm right here, Iâm not letting you go, youâll be okay, Iâm hereâ!
The man lifted his head, locked eyes with Castiel and suddenly, his act of disobedience seemed righteous. All the doubts and longing he experienced seemed right. The man didnât feel like he was a wrong fit. It didnât feel like he was made for Michael at all; no, it felt like he was made for Castiel instead.
The angel gripped him tight and raised him from the pits.
âDEAN WINCHESTER IS SAVED!â
He never let him go.
