Here comes legitimate Jon Targaryen!! đđđ
I think this is well known in the books that oaths before the heart trees i.e Old Gods have power and are not supposed to be broken - for ex. see Jon Snow being killed immediately after announcing/deciding that he was breaking his oaths.
This was why it was ridiculous on the TV show when Sansa promised Jon in front of the Old Gods that she would not tell anyone about his actual parentage and then straight away made a beeline to Tyrion to spill the beans in order to sabotage Dany and then was rewarded for her backstabbing and betrayal by her ending up as Queen. If she had done this in the books, the consequences for her would have been far worse.

Working on HOTU - the part where Dany enters the warlocks chamber- and since I've read it for the first time I wanted to draw that "heart filled with coruption" which is the only source of light in the room...I mean how does a "heart filled with coruption" looks like...and then I start thinking that a tree kind of looks like the blood circulation system of a human being...with the branches stretching all over...so here it is my interpretation of a "heart filled with coruption" or a heart tree filled with coruption...
I realize a lot of fans dismissed this as reaching recently, and so everyone sort of shut up about it, but I can't let it go. Especially when acknowledging what is literally happening on the show itself aka YOU'RE THE HEART, has convinced me that none of this is reaching. In fact, I'm certain that the heart imagery in the California poster(s) was intentional and intended to foreshadow requited Byler in ST5!
HEAR ME OUT!
The Duffers, when asked about the significance of the s4 posters, got excited, saying that it was indeed foreshadowing done by marketing, only to shut up instantly, steering the conversation elsewhere.
A little bit before season 4 actually premiered, fans got these posters as promotion and started noticing the hearts in the trees fairly quickly. So, this isnât something that was only recently discovered well after s4 premiered. No, this was something fans caught onto way before 'you're the heart' was even a concept we were aware of. And I think there's a reason for that, in that it was foreshadowing what was still yet to come.
So, for starters, look at each of these trees individuallyâŠ
They all look like your basic, run-of-the-mill palm trees. They have texture to them, which makes them fairly unique like trees often are. They were designed for the eye to instantly qualify them as trees.
These TWO below on the other hand, follow a different formula.
These trees look like hearts, point blank. They are much more defined into a shape than they are meant to look like realistic trees.
One heart is on the left and one heart is on right in this poster (smack dab where the rule of thirds lies, might I add). The left heart is a little bigger and therefore easier for the eye to catch first, while the heart on the right is a little smaller and therefore harder to notice, but itâs there.
Now get ready, because what actually sort of sealed the deal for me, is that itâs obvious these two trees, are the exact same.
Here you can see I reverted the right heart horizontally, and yep... Theyâre the same. Even down to the little detail of the small tree accompanying both of them. You can clearly see they are the same image, just copy/pasted, shrunk a little smaller and reverted horizontally.
So what does this all mean
Well, a couple weeks after Vol. 2 dropped on July 1st, after rewatching the van scene a bajillion times, numerous fans started to notice a heart shape in the light of Willâs eye. And once you saw it, you couldnât unsee it, especially in edits that enhanced the quality of the scene and made it even more prominent than how it looked in the show.
But the thing is, the heart doesnât stay there the entire time in Will's eye. Thereâs moments where itâs bright and clear as day, and theres other moments where it's just barely visible. And I think that was probably necessary, otherwise it would have been a little too obvious. But it's still just subtle enough, and within the context of the conversation literally happening on screen, YOU'RE THE HEART!, that it's... wow. It's beautiful.
Even more interestingly, similar to the posters, while there is a more prominent heart on the left, that being the heart in Will's eye in this scene, his heart is also accompanied by a second heart to the right, which is also slightly less obvious, but itâs there, and it's in Mikeâs eye.
Thereâs moments where itâs bursting or, to even fit the context of the scene, âfalling apartâ (it quite literally falls apart the moment Will says those exact words).
Yes, Mike's heart is a little smaller, it's less distinguishable. And there's times when you can't really see it at all, just like Will's, but it's there, all while Mike looks, dare I say it, in love?!?
The van scene took over half a day to film, and a lot of evidence points to the fact that there is way more going on in this scene than meets the eye. (Like the fact that Will's monologue in the van parallels perfectly to Mike's monologue at surfer boy pizza...)
"I know it's sort of on the nose"
NO ITS LITERALLY ON THE EYES, YOU EVIL GENIUSES!
This, on top of everything else???? Like, Byler is so inevitable at this point, thereâs seriously no room for doubts anymore.
I also want to add that, fans noticed Lonnie (Will's dad)'s car in the background of the main Cali poster, and we also know the actor who played him attended the table read for season 4. Which means that this poster has another element to it that confirms it's indeed foreshadowing what is still yet to come in season 5, not just season 4... So it's not a reach to theorize about the significance here of Mike, clearly walking towards Will, while everyone else is walking forwards. After all season 4 was just the beginning of the end. And the posters are confirmed to have hints pointing towards endgame...
Is there a difference between a heart tree with a carved face in a weirwood tree and a heart tree with a face that isn't weirwood. Do the non weirwood trees just not work?
We donât know, we havenât seen non-weirwood trees ânot workingâ. We do know that greenseers are only bound to weirwood trees, presumably because that tree is the only one with the right sort of magic. That is, as weirwoods are weirdly human, with leaves like hands and sap like blood, it may be itâs the only kind where its crushed seeds can create the physical and mental bond between human (or Children) and the trees. Furthermore, the unique properties of weirwoods â that they live forever unless cut down, and never rot, so that âa thousand human years are a moment to a weirwoodâ â make them uniquely suitable for viewing the past, seeing across time and space.
But Bran was told that as his abilities expand, he wonât be limited to looking out of only the eyes of weirwood trees:
âNor will your sight be limited to your godswood. The singers carved eyes into their heart trees to awaken them, and those are the first eyes a new greenseer learns to use⊠but in time you will see well beyond the trees themselves. [âŠ] In a year, or three, or ten. That I have not glimpsed. It will come in time, I promise you.â âADWD, Bran III
And, well, thereâs evidence Bran will / already did look through Red Keepâs heart tree:
The night the bird [with the message that Bran had awoken] had come from Winterfell, Eddard Stark had taken the girls to the castle godswood, an acre of elm and alder and black cottonwood overlooking the river. The heart tree there was a great oak, its ancient limbs overgrown with smokeberry vines; they knelt before it to offer their thanksgiving, as if it had been a weirwood. Sansa drifted to sleep as the moon rose, Arya several hours later, curling up in the grass under Nedâs cloak. All through the dark hours he kept his vigil alone. When dawn broke over the city, the dark red blooms of dragonâs breath surrounded the girls where they lay. âI dreamed of Bran,â Sansa had whispered to him. âI saw him smiling.â âAGOT, Eddard V
How long he waited in the quiet of the godswood, he could not say. It was peaceful here. The thick walls shut out the clamor of the castle, and he could hear birds singing, the murmur of crickets, leaves rustling in a gentle wind. The heart tree was an oak, brown and faceless, yet Ned Stark still felt the presence of his gods. His leg did not seem to hurt so much. âAGOT, Eddard XII
So Iâd say that for certain purposes, non-weirwood heart trees work just fineâŠ
ok but like...in any magical setting other than Westeros, where the magic is more inherent/obvious. Yâknow, like a DnD or Pathfinder setting, or Stereotypical Fantasy World.
Weirwoods would be terrifying trees.
Of course, they would draw and host all sorts of fae and such. Weâll handle Dryads first.
A weirwood dryad would of course look like the tree themselves. Which means actual white skin. Not Caucasian. Paper white. Both hair and eyes would be blood red. They are the fiercest of dryads, and will not allow their trees to be cut down. They are so territorial, they will wipe out entire villages, if they perceive a threat to their trees.Â
Of course, most people would know this, and chose instead to just...quietly help this tree grow. Yâknow, watering it in times of drought, pruning any diseased branches. The kind of thing the dryad simply cannot do, for one reason or another. The dryadâs loyalty upon receiving these services would last eons. Because of one faithful gardener, an entire village will be defended by this dryad for as long as it is settled.Â
And then there are the Ents. As far as Ents go, Weirwoods are fast. Because of the properties of Weirwood lumber (no seriously look it up these trees are mad awesome), they are both incredibly strong and surprisingly flexible. They take the best from hard and soft wood and create a force to be reckoned with. Once they root, and they begin to bear fruit, itâs...not the usual Ent fruit. It is not strictly limited to healing properties. Itâs...more akin to the demonfruit of One Piece, except only one tree for just about every variety.Â
It only bears fruit when someone comes with desperation. If they eat of the fruit, it will grant them what they need to solve whatever issue came their way.
But at a price. And it is often steep.
The elves shun the fruit of the Weirwood Ents, knowing it is rarely worth the cost.
And of course, there is the other thing. That any existing gods in this realm can and will use any carved heart trees as their eyes and voice. This...isnât necessarily a good thing. With the native magic strengthening the connection and the power of a true god (which ISNâT NECESSARILY GOOD ALIGNED), one may find heart trees becoming animated. Neither Dryad nor Ent nor any other Fae of either court, this...this is a true Vessel of the Gods.
Letâs just say if youâve been blaspheming, you wonât when you see this giant ass maple/birch crossbreed dripping blood-sap on your doorstep.
That said...Weirwood is still the most desired lumber for anything from furniture to bows and arrows. Just be sure to get it from a tree that isnât somehow alive. Itâs also a good idea to plant a sapling if you plan to cut down an adult. Because the Ents are protective of their groves. And never take lumber from a Carved Tree. If the gods wish you to have that lumber, theyâll let you know themselves.
TL;DR: If you live in a High Fantasy Realm, and you steal Weirwood saplings from Westeros, be prepared to honor and obey your new tree overlords.

Looking up from the assigned math worksheet, Marcus furrowed his brow at the little girl seated at the table across from him, his eyes drifting down to the book she had open before her.
âAbby,â he hissed, looking towards where their teacher was helping David Miller with his work, âit isnât reading time.â
âPsh,â she scoffed, tossing one of her braided pigtails over her shoulder, âI finished my sheet ten minutes ago. Ms. Harris wonât mind, now look!â
She held up the book for him to see the page she was looking at, and a quick glance at the words at the top told him it had something to do with earth studies. He looked at the picture she was pointing too, and tilted his head in confusion when he made out the image of a man carving a heart into what appeared to be a large tree.
âWhy is he doing that?â
Abby rolled her eyes and pulled the book back, âHe is doing it for a girl. So she knows he loves her.â
âCouldnât he just tell her?â
âWell yeah, but this is more symbolic.â
âMarcus shook his head and returned his attention to his worksheet, âSeems kinda silly to me.â
âThat is because you donât have a romantic bone in your body.â
âAbby, we are 10, we arenât supposed to be worried about romance.â
She ignored his rationale, and leaned closer across the space between them, âSo if you loved a girl, you wouldnât do something like this to show her how you feel?â
âNo, and you wanna know why?â
âWhy?â
He leaned forward as well, so there were only a few inches between them, âBecause first of all there are no trees on the Ark, and second, there are better ways to show you love someone.â
Before she could say another word, or he could loose his nerve, he closed the distance and pecked her lips quickly, causing her to gasp loudly in surprise.
He got a week of detention for his trouble, but the look on Abbyâs face had been well worth it.
~~~
Today was the day.
Two weeks ago had been Abbyâs fifteenth birthday, and Marcus had been spending that time trying to work up the nerve to give her the gift he had worked so hard on. It had been fourteen days of him struggling over how to go about giving it to her, and he decided enough was enough. Abby was his best friend, and he had no reason to be nervous about giving her something he knew she would love.
He went through classes that whole day, reminding himself over and over that what he was doing was not going to be a bad thing, and when dinner rolled around he was a ball of nervous energy as he dressed in his best shirt, and pants. His mom eyed him as he headed towards the cantina, the small gift in his shaky hand, but she mercifully didnât say anything other than âGood luck.â
It seemed like the walk from his quarters to where his station took their meals lasted hours instead of the five minutes it actually took and by the time he reached the doorway he was about ready to turn tail and run. Then, just as the last of his nerves was giving out, he spotted Abby sitting at a nearby table and all was calm. He stood there watching as she tucked a long strand of hair behind her ear, her face scrunched in concentration as she read through a book that was in front of her. Finals were in a week, and Marcus shook his head in awe of the girlâs relentless study schedule.
Deciding she wouldnât mind his interrupting her for a few minutes, Marcus took one last calming breath, and moved to step forward only to stop short when Jake Griffin plopped next to Abby, and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. For a second he tried to tell himself that the blonde boy was just greeting Abby, but when they leaned in and kissed, Marcusâ heart gave a painful wrench.
Turning he ran back down the hallway towards his quarters, and slammed through the door, brushing some tears from his eyes. Vera, who had been just about to head to the cantina herself, jumped back a few inches, a look of shock on her face.
âMarcus, what on earth?â
He ignored her, and raced to his room, punching the wall as soon as the door slid shut behind him. Then he looked down at the object in his hand- a tree made out of scrap metal- and flung it at the window over his bunk. It bounced off the glass with a satisfying thunk, and landed, dented, at his feet.
Marcus stared down at the offensive object and the engraved heart that was now weirdly bent from the impact of his throw, and smiled bitterly. Â Then he stomped on the miniature tree until it, the heart, and the initials within it were no more than a flattened piece of scrap.
~~~
âDo you trust me?â
Looking up from where she was taking inventory in the medical tent, Abby smiled questioningly at Marcus, tilting her head as she tried to decipher why he was asking such a ridiculous thing.
âOf course I trust you Marcus, why would you even ask?â
He stepped closer and tugged on the end of her ponytail playfully as he held up a black strip of fabric, âI just wanted to make sure, before I had you put this on.â
âWhat is it?â
âA blindfold.â
She arched a brow, and considered demanding more details, but then the look of hope on his face made her pause, and after a moment she turned her back to him slowly, waving at him to do as he pleased.
Within moments she was completely blinded as he finished tying the cloth off, and she gripped behind her to find his hand.
âDonât worry sweetheart,â he whispered in her ear, grabbing her groping appendage and giving it a reassuring squeeze, âI have you.â
Gently he turned her, and she leaned into him as they began to walkâŠand walkâŠand walk. Her brow furrowed even more as she felt her feet move from the metal floor of medical, and onto the grassy terrain outside, only to shift a few minutes later to the rougher terrain of the woods that surrounded Arkadia.
âAre you leading me to my death councilor?â she quipped as he helped her maneuver over a fallen log, âBecause I will have you know, I have declared that Raven will be chancellor if I were to perish.â
Marcus laughed, and kissed her head, not saying anything for a few more minutes, when he stopped their walk and slowly steered her to face a certain direction. He continued to stay silent as he removed the blindfold, and stepped away from her, and she was about to turn to see what he was up to when her eyes fell on the massive oak before her.
There, in the bark more than 30 hearts were carved, all with her and Marcusâ initials carved in them.
âWhat-â
She turned to face the man still standing behind her, her eyes burning as she gave him a questioning look.
âYou said it was romantic.â
âThat was 32 years ago Marcus, how can you possibly remember that?â
He reached out and took her hand, pulling her close to him, âHow can I forget the first time I kissed the love of my life?â
Tears slipped down her cheeks, and she pressed her face into his neck, smiling brightly, âWhy so many?â
Cupping her cheeks in his hands, and brushing away the moisture resting upon them, Marcus bent to kiss her before answering, âIsnât it obvious? It is one heart for every year I have loved you.â
She stayed silent for a moment, taking in his response, before a giggle burst from her lips, her head shaking in amusement.
âWas that too cheesy?â he asked as she continued to laugh, his hand coming up to rub nervously at the back of his neck. Seeing his worried demeanor, Abby sobered slightly, and pressed closer to him, her arms around his neck.
âOh no, it isnât cheesy, in fact,â she leaned up even closer, âit is soooo romantic.â Then before he could say another word she closed the distance, and pressed her lips to his in a passionate kiss.
