Can Artificial Intelligence Replace Voice Talent?
Artificial intelligence replacing voice talent has been a big debate for many years. People seem very divided on this issue. Many people think with the way technology is evolving; there is a very real possibility of this happening. Artificial intelligence can not replace voice talent.Â
Voice talent is something, in my opinion, that would be hard to replace. Of course, artificial intelligence is cheaper and faster to produce than using a voice talent, but to me; it is just not as enjoyable to listen to. Voice talent has an emotion, a human connection, even that artificial intelligence can not mimic. Sure it is cheaper and faster to produce, but if it is not done right, no one is going to want to listen to it. The technology they use for artificial intelligence has evolved so much now that robots can replicate high-quality, natural-sounding speech, unlike in the past when it was just per-recorded words. However, like any technology, it can malfunction, and things can go wrong. I was torn on this issue, and after reading an article on VoiceTalent.com, I got a little more insight into artificial intelligence versus natural voice talent. To me, artificial intelligence will never be able to match the tone and feel of a natural voice actor. I think it is concerning how much the technology is evolving for this, with a Chinese company announcing they can clone a human voice in just three point seven seconds. Well, this is great for the film industry; it is scary to think of who can get their hands on this. I also think voice acting has an advantage because lots of people love celebrities, so if they star in whatever they are using the voice actor for, more people will want to listen in to it. There are just so many reasons for natural voice acting over artificial intelligence that I think artificial intelligence will never overtake voice acting.Â
