Are they?
you know…
A healer and a tank?
So I’m currently trying in my head to come up with ideas for a sort of parody RPG, namely by which I mean that the characters are, at least on the surface, parodies of characters in classic RPGs/JRPGs, and likely so is the story but also as you go through the game, the characters (and story) end up having more depth than just being parodies, either that or they grow out of their “parody” status and become their own unique characters
This was mostly brought on because I was thinking a lot about RPGs today, and because the original idea was inspired by some art I found here a year or two ago of basically that concept (I’ll have to try and find it again to show you)
Anyways, so I was thinking about the healer/white mage character archetype, and I just wanted to list some of the ideas I had. Okay, it’s mostly two, but still, I just wanted to share. Maybe if I think of more I’ll add them
Character who starts off as a weak healer (I mean they’re physically not that strong, they can heal just fine) but throughout the story wants to learn better self defense, and so learns from other characters, likely the assassin archetype, how to use melee weapons. I imagine they end up having daggers as a secondary weapon instead of just their staff
A character that has been taught only healing magic all their life and maybe wants to be stronger, but the reason why they’ve only been taught healing magic is because their magical potential is so strong, if they were to learn offensive spells, they could cause disaster. The healer does not know this
I mean another idea was a healer that was fairly physically strong and large and was more a field medic, but that was more for a “let’s do the opposite of the archetype” sort of thing
I find myself thinking about the second option today, though I’m not sure which one I like more
I dunno, just wanted to share
Auraugust Day 9: Healer
Level 80 and 90 maxed classes for Sage through Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
So after pitching an idea for a new healer class, me and a friend debated on it. And here's the result.
The class name is "Composer" and they use time based magic to heal wounds and give buffs.
The move "Rondo" creates and area around them that, when standing in (this includes the whole party), recast times speed up significantly.
Fortisimo would be an attack enhancing buff while Pianisimo would be a damage reducing buff. Crescendo powers up attacks used over time until it wears off which is great for combos.
There are a few other time based moves involving tempo and rewinding to heal wounds.
The guild master makes it very clear that because of the chaotic nature of time magic it can only be used in short bursts for healing.

CONFESSION:
I loved that there was no healer class. I did not like having to choose between companions. I also play a Healer in WOW and did not want to be bothered with it because Dragon Age games are how I relax. I learned how to use Barrier properly and I actually became a better player for it.
An OLD SCHOOL pippi havin a bratty litlte SIT. Love this loser gnome. It’s been almost a year since we first started playing DND; Next month, in fact! It’s almost peepee’s bday!
Man I cannot play a healer class in teamwork games. I was with this guy in planetside 2 and he kept getting shot down and I must’ve revived him like 12 times. I get too attached, just would not let this poor guy die. Like you are my patient, you protect me and I’ll keep you alive. Symbiotic relationship style
