It hurt. It hurt so bad that it didn't; he could feel himself drifting away. He's disoriented. Rhodey...he didn't need to say anything, that look said it all.
He was fading away, taking his last breaths and almost- until he heard that trembling voice of his kid, longing and broken, "It's Peter." He immediately shifts his gaze to him, but says nothing. What is he to say, what could possibly comfort the boy? There's too much to say that he can't say anything at all- was it even real? Is any of it? Is Peter even back, or was it some trick? He's too dazed and in too much pain to wrap his head around the fact that he got his kid back; the kid he grieved for five years, the kid he had countless nightmares about losing, the kid who nobody could ever replace, not even his own biological child. "Tony?" The kid begged with so little hope, like that could bring him to life. He sounded so defeated, so pained. Then he's gone- the kid's gone again, he can't be gone. Tony had to keep him in his sight until his last breath, which was soon.
Pepper. "Hey, Pep" he smiles through the agonizing pain. That's all he needed to say, Pepper knows him well enough to- but the kid. "Kid?" he tries to utter, but it barely comes out. Peter hears it though, he hears it all, as well as Tony's heart stopping. Tony's gone.
