OMG! I love your art style and all of your art! Would you mind to show me how you draw Stan and Ford(so fab like that)? I tried to draw them but they look SO weird. and thank you so much ^^
Thank you! Sorry this took so long! I didn’t forget about you. :) But um… a tutorial on how I draw Stan and Ford? I’ve never really made a tutorial so it’s going to be bad. XD Also, I’m really really bad at explaining things but I’ll try my best.
Just to throw this out there, this is the way I draw them. Everyone has their own way of drawing them. My way might not be for everyone but if this helps you in any way and you find your own approach that’s great!
So I just open up a new document. It doesn’t matter what size you use (the bigger the canvas, the better). My size is 1220x880. I usually have three layers: ref, sketch, la(lineart). For the ref layer, I just start out with the shapes of their head and mark which direction their face is facing. The shape I tend to draw is a rounded oval. I flatten where their cheek is going to be and flatten where their chin is. Since they pretty much have the same face shape I duplicate one and just mirror it to the other side. I use the airbrush tool and tend to do very short strokes.
This is my guideline for the placement of their eyes and nose. I tend to not follow the lines exactly and just use the lines where they meet for their nose and go off from there. Now I set the opacity really low, about 30% and go on to my sketch layer. Here I draw out all their features. I still use my airbrush but set the size smaller, about 8. The size for the ref layer was 11. It’s going to look really messy. I use short strokes for this layer as well.
I always start with the nose, then the eyes, the glasses, eyebrows, their cheek and chin, ears, mouth, and then the hair is last. Everyone has their own take but the most important thing to know is Ford’s hair has to be floofy; it’s a must. I give Stan’s hair a bit of floof too.
Sketch is all done. You can either delete the ref layer or hide it. Depends on you. Then like before, lower the sketches opacity. I do about 35%. Now you’re ready to line! I use my ink tool. I mainly use size 2 but for the eyes and smaller details I use 1. When I’m too lazy to make circles for the eyes, I’ll use my ellipse tool to make them.
And there you have it! Sorry this isn’t as detailed and sorry if it sounds confusing (also if it sucks lol). Hope this helped! I wanted to add a gif to show the process of my sketching but it was too late to do it. If it’ll be better help I’ll gladly do one. But this is just the way I do it. Look at references, take your time, and PRACTICE. Good luck!
