Over the years, I have encouraged Some Famous Published Author to develop a number of pen names in a number of different genres. Then secretly leaked that each pen name is Some Famous Published Author, of course acting shocked that their fans have uncovered the truth. Then encouraged Some Famous Published Author to create yet more pen names in their search for unbiased critical opinion, and yet again revealed their secret identity. And then, one night, when the moon is full, I shall unleash Pen Name #53 and all their fans shall flock to it, trying to figure out if it is once again Some Famous Published Author, and I shall write many, many books as Pen Name #53, and the fans will debate for years if this is Some Famous Publish Author or not, all the while enjoying MY actual books for once. And then, I shall reveal that I, Pen Name #53, am in fact Pen Name #53, and Pen Name #53 is in fact my actual name.

Alternatively, nah.

Ha. Yes. Funny you should ask!!  :D  That is actually an aborted early version of Locust Wind. You see, the sequel to Second Mouse was called ... that and was intended to be seriously hokey, with a jewel heist (I think the Tower of London was involved, hence Bond) that resulted in them finding that this famous gem had magical powers. I’m not sure it was going to be an Infinity Stone; I never got that far, because I was driving home from work, on Island Park Drive (I remember this very clearly) when U2′s Rattle and Hum came up on my iPod play list and I heard the line “On the locust wind comes a rattle and hum”, and I INSTANTLY had the title, the mood and the colours for the story I needed to write. And there was no room for the Elephant Star in that... I am still flirting with writing it at some point...

But she’s 30 now, and she’s simply too old to live like this, to accept the fact that she’ll wake up each morning and sink her feet into shag carpeting old and colorless enough to guarantee it hasn’t been truly clean since the day it was installed back in 1971.

Pepper toes at a suspicious stain on the linoleum. “Is this blood?”

Natasha peers at it. “Probably.”
