Harvey Stephens is the sweetest. This is the version from my old-school four-movie Omen set. He has the most lovely demeanor and accent—I could have talked to him all day. He kept Damien’s tricycle and his kids played with it, which just amused me to no end. He joked on the Kids in Horror panel that he gets away with a general life of anonymity because he is “ugly”, which is farthest from the truth. He said that in the baboon scene that was not acting—he was truly terrified—and he no longer goes to zoos for that reason. He also gave the most wonderful news: Gregory Peck’s an angel. Also released on this day, but back in 1976 was The Omen, starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick as Robert and Katherine Thorn, David Warner as the reporter Jennings, and little Harvey Stephens as the adorable moppet, Damien. The film was directed by Richard Donner, who would go on to direct Supeman, Superman II, Ladyhawke, The Goonies, Scrooged, and Lethal Weapons 1 through 4. Stephens was cast thanks to the way he attacked Donner during the auditions. Donner asked all the little boys to "come at him" as if they were attacking Katherine Thorn during the church wedding scene.
