My mom just told me the greatest story about my childhood. All Bette Midler fans know that her backup dancers/singers are called “The Harlettes.” I’ve been a Bette fan since I was born and all I ever wanted as a kid, was to be a Harlette. So whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, naturally that’s what I said.
However.
Being a dumb 9yr old, I didn’t realize the importance of emphasis. There is a strong difference between “Harlette” and “Harlot.”

Cleaning snake cages today. This is my baby girl, Harlette. (I didn't name her; she was a rescue and I never changed the name.) I've had her for about 12 years. I don't normally argue that snakes recognize their keepers, but I swear that this one does. There's no other way to explain some of her behaviors. 🤔 She's so different from all of my other snakes. Her favorite places to sit include the bridge of my nose (which terrifies most people) and the top of my head. Once she's in one of those places, she'll sit calmly for an hour if I let her. She was my very first snake and words cant even express how much she means to me.
