      â â yâknow, youâre starting to sound a bit preoccupied by the idea that i donât wanna sleep with you. â / @hardbittten â here.
     ah, there it is. the quip. the cynical jab. once upon a time, he mightâve been quicker to jump to the defense, but now itâs almost laughable. she isnât wrong, but he doubts sheâs any better. he doubts anyone is better. human beings as a whole have a knack for wrapping themselves thick in their self-delusion.
            âbecause iâm a man of god?â tomasâ eyebrow ticks up, his weight shifting to allow him to rest back a bit more. something tells him itâs more than that. this woman is sharp, jagged, and ready to take down anyone in the near vicinity. marcus would like her, he muses. âi suppose to someone who doesnât believe itâd look like that,â his shoulder pulls in a shrug, a quick smile flicking into place and then dying.Â
    âyouâre a person, too, no? i guess you know about it as well.â // @hardbittten ( cont. )
1 + 2 it's time to offend the ~patsy stans
[radio voice] why thank you, @hardbittten jessica, Thatâs Our Favorite Sport
cut for me speaking too candidly about things that affect me personally, which is dax for âtrigger warning, abuseâŚs and medical stuffâ, i guess. and drugs!
@hardbittten continued:
          â jesus, do you ever listen to yourself talk? â itâs rhetorical. bitter with frustration where it hangs off the ragged edge of jessicaâs tongue, who exactly does trish think jessica is? sheâs too selfish to just traipse off like the fact she worked three jobs and barely slept to get trish through rehab doesnât matter, and sheâs not looking for thanks â wouldnât know what to do with them, doesnât want them â but that doesnât stop that from feeling like a slap in the face. right. of course. how could she forget, she got trish out from under her parasitic piece of shit mother just so she wouldnât have to worry. thatâs who she is. sure. fine. ( itâs not fine. itâs one thing for jessica to know sheâs not up to scratch, not enough. itâs another thing for trish to say it. ) â if you wanna tell me to go fuck myself, then say that. donât spin me bullshit about how i âdonât have to worryâ. jesus. â
Trish stares at Jessica with something close to shock slapped across her face. Whatever she mightâve been expecting, itâs not what she got. She doesnât know what she was expecting. Honestly.
The tone-- sheâd honestly have preferred if Jessica did slap her, and thatâs really saying something, all things considered. The way the sound of Jessicaâs voice and the look in her eye... itâs wounding. It bricks a wall up quicker than Trish couldâve intentionally.Â
âFine. Go fuck yourself.â Itâs defensive and quick and bitter. She doesnât actually mean it, but she canât figure out why exactly Jessicaâs going off on her.
Thin arms ( still too thin but not as thin ) flex where theyâve been protectively folded across her chest, and Trish stares-- weight shifting from foot to foot-- before she finally turns and leaves the room. This isnât happening, whatever this is. ( It is happening. Trish is just too weak to deal with it. She might be sober, but sheâs still a mess, emotionally, as her twice weekly therapy sessions are showing her in startling clarity. )

      â  no, donât take her.  sheâs sleeping.  â  he whines,  cuddling the pup on his chest.Â
@hardbittten
Phil was staring, with that pained look he often got when talking when Darcy. He was tempted to just shut the computer down and end the call right then and there, but that was hardly becoming behaviour.
âYou want to engage a civilian investigator to track and monitor Jaxon?â
Sheâd already gone over her whole proposal about why it was a good idea, so Darcy just rolled her eyes. âThatâs what I said wasnât it?â
There were several drawn out moments of silence before Phil sighed and Darcy smiled. For a guy who had years of not giving emotions away, he sure had a lot of tells, and this one was her favourite. It was the one that meant sheâd won.Â
âIf this goes wrong, itâs on you. SHIELD has no involvement whatsoever.â
âSir yes sir.â Darcy snapped off a jaunty salute. There was only a split second of Philâs unimpressed face before the screen went black.Â
It took a couple of days to get everything lined up, fabricating enough of a reason that Stark would be wanting to dig up dirt on this guy rather than a secretive shadow agency, and planting enough of a trail to support it in case anyone went looking, and then Darcy was knocking on the door of Alias Investigations. She let herself in, not waiting for anyone to actually answer.
âHi,â she said, holding up her hands to show she was unarmed. âI need your services, but I figured you might just tell me to piss off if I tried to call ahead.â She smiled pleasantly at Jessica and made her prayers that she wasnât about to be, literally, bodily thrown from the building.
@hardbittten.
        âknock knock. whoâs there -- me, having to say knock knock because, well, your doorâs broken. you know what they say about, er -- knock knock knocking on heavenâs door.â
