i think i’m jiving with it so far, honestly. i’m only take five classes, so i don’t have a lot of work yet and the way the professors are talking i don’t have to write any paper longer than seven pages this semester, which is nice.

i thought i’d be really anxious about dorm living but my roommate is cool and my bed isn’t too uncomfortable. i don’t even mind the whole locker-room esque shower taking situation. i also appreciate the strong lack of dress code because i can finally embrace the emo stripper aesthetic i have always felt in my heart.

my campus is really small; i can walk from my room to my furthest class in just over five minutes (maybe i just walk fast, tho. i hear lots of people complaining about how far apart everything is.). i have two classes back to back which are in the same room with the same professor and i’m not liking that very much, honestly. i only get 15 minutes between those two classes so i can’t really do anything but hang out in the classroom or lobby of the building.

i auditioned for the fall play last night and at lunchtime i’ll have to go check the call board. i doubt i’ll get in, but it’s an experimental multi-media performance, so i might see if i can get on doing some film editing for the background projections.

one thing that i’m low-key distressed by is that i have attractive people in almost all of my classes so i have to put an effort into my appearance every day. i met this incredibly attractive guy at my college orientation and he’s in my english class so i’ve mentally prepared myself to fail that class, lmao. he sits in the way back corner though so unless i decide to sit next to him i can’t really creepily stare at him for fifty minutes, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view.

i also met a guy on move in day who i later discovered is going into the same major with the same concentration for the same reason as i am. he’s really funny but kind of reminds me of the guy i’d had a crush on since eighth grade so i think i’ll pass.

9: Favorite author(s)?I don’t really judge books by their authors or choose what to read by who wrote it. So I guess this isn’t really favorite authors but just authors I look out for? (But I guess that’s what favorite means right?) Also this isn’t in any order and I had to Google every name so…

Emmy Laybourne (and this is literally only bc the 1st Monument 14 kicked such ass. every time we talk about blood types in class I have flashbacks to this series. Sweet also was pretty good but idk if ill ever read anything else by her unless Sweet becomes a series [also I read Sweet with its hardcover cover as an arc and I never knew it had a better, softcover cover until I googled the name of the book to make sure I got it right])

Gordon Korman (“But Rachel”, you scream. “Doesn’t this guy only write sports and kids books?” YES BITCH. and even though im 17 the Swindle series will always and forever be my fav stfu)

Raina Telgemeir (okay so I high key hate graphic novels and I honestly dont know why bc I love art and books but whatever. but I read Smile in 5th grade and my entire life fucking chaNGED HOE. I high-key need to reread Drama bc I was v smol when I first read it and I dont remember much and I dont think I really got it, but other than that. ive read all her original stuff and im currently rereading Ghost but this time in spanish bc the story is about dia de los muertos and so it was released once in english but also in spanish so I figured since I want to learn Spanish and ive already read it once so I know what happens and it has pictures I should read it again.)

Okay time for a obligatory plug for my mom Jan Fields bc she’s a childrens author and shes also pretty good and im not just saying that bc she is my mother (also why is her website so ugly [it’s because it hasn’t been updated since 2015 okay got it])

Also sorry for writing so much for this I have a lot of opinions. Someone should ask me my favorite books if you want a literal 5 paragraph essay. (An even longer essay probably would be worst book but that’s beside the point.)
