Hand-dyed warp going on…..
Good afternoon to one and all..... hope all goes well and you're ready for the storm tomorrow! As most of you likely know, I've added yet another obsession over the last few years as I seem to have dove head first into weaving. It certainly was good to have something else to keep me occupied during the Covid lockdowns in between jewelry making adventures...... especially as I had some trouble getting jewelry making supplies!!! Spent some time the last few days working on my "new to me" Leclerc Colonial loom (this is loom number three if anyone is keeping count.... yep head first!). I'm still trying to tweek the loom setup to get it weaving nicely so that I need to use fewer words while using it ;-) Of course, I had to try out a new weave structure as well! Whatcha think so far? Take care and please stay safe in the storm..... Energy Centres, 2022 Detail showing the inlay of a square in pink silk /wool, plus a thick hand spun inlay in pink and peach
As it happened - Photo of the artist back in 2019 - early October 2019 - Here I was taking the second wrap I had woven for my daughter's birth off the loom. I was very ill but didn't realise and went on to almost lose my life. Here is the passage I documented at the time: 'This was taken just less than 2 weeks ago when I’d been to my midwife appointment and things got very serious very quickly when the midwife said about calling an ambulance to take me to hospital because my blood pressure had gone through the roof. I thought she was being dramatic, turned out I was being silly and misunderstood the severity of the situation. I came home and wove this wrap off, cut it off and tied up the rest of the warp before heading to hospital. I had the worst headache but I couldn’t leave it on the loom as I needed it incase my daughter had to be born. It was soooo silly and I’m lucky to be here'

Rainbow Baby Wrap - 2018 Supima cotton warp x pineapple bast / cotton weft Worn to carry my son during a particularly challenging time, the rhythmic action of weaving acted as a meditative activity allowing me to let thoughts flow in and out. During this time I resolved some things but times remained challenging as there was a lot going on that i didn't know about. I was grateful for the time I took out of motherhood duties to create this wrap and the fact that it was for my son eased my guilt over doing something that I enjoyed which required my baby to be looked after by another caregiver for short periods. By this point my eldest was 3.5 years old and as I had given her two younger brothers the baby stage felt prolonged, whilst she had gained a little independence from me her brother had then been born who needed me. As he grew a little older and began to toddle, I had his younger brother and thus had a small baby dependent on me once more. After the birth of my third child in Spring 2018 i started to feel a shift in how I viewed motherhood. I began to struggle to juggle the demands...the constant demands and with other life events, life became very stressful.
