To You
Times are bad now, you know they are. You are filled with anxiety more often than you feel nothing at all, though thatâs the only change you even notice anymore these days. Iâm sure when you read this things will have gotten better. Because they always do, donât they? I just want to remind you then of how you feel right now. Then is when you cry in bed as you try to sleep but find yourself still staring up at the ceiling when itâs 4AM; and when youâve slipped into unconciousness and wake up at 9AM you donât want to get out of bed and stay there until itâs noon and you feel guilty and sick and like youâre not trying hard enough. You feel lonely and canât talk to anyone about whatâs happening or how you feel because you are ashamed. You know itâll get better, but the time between better and now takes so long.
Either way you get up every day. Some days you eat and some days you donât. You talk to friends and family and smile and tell them they look great. They canât see youâre slipping. You doubt yourself every day whether youâre trying hard enough or not. Each time you try to distract yourself with something remotely fun you have to stop and feel guilty about it because having fun isnât what you deserve when youâre in the mess you are in right now. You think of things you couldâve done differently which couldâve spared you from the point where you are right now and then you chastise yourself because: âthere is no changing the past.â
Thereâs no changing the past and thatâs true, so you decided to write it down for times when life is better again. Donât expect life to not get bad again, because maybe someday it will. But know that you are now proof that after such a long time of feeling worthless and ashamed it does get better. Hold on to that feeling. Even when it slips you will always have this to read and know that somewhere in the future is âbetterâ again.
