Some-what Accidental Raising of a Parasite
I collected a strange jellybean-like caterpillar from a CitrusΒ tree. I noticed that it wasnβt moving, and thought it may be dead, but I kept it in captivity anyway to see what would happen.
A week or so later, an unidentified parasitic wasp emerged. The wasp chewed a whole through the caterpillarβs body, meaning it pupated inside the specimen. The caterpillar was indeed dead, but it was also carrying another life form.
Host: Unidentified, family Limacodidae
Parasite: Unidentified, superfamily Ichneumonoidea

* Though it is sad that these cute caterpillars are eaten by wasps in brutal ways, these parasites are very important, as they keep caterpillars from eating every plant on Earth
