This recipe for black-eyed peas in the slow cooker is flavorful and filling, making it ideal for a cozy supper. The dish gains depth from the smoky flavor of the turkey leg or ham hock.

Ingredients: 1 lb dried black-eyed peas. 1 onion, chopped. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 ham hock or smoked turkey leg. 4 cups chicken broth. 1 teaspoon salt. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper. 1 bay leaf.

Instructions: Rinse and sort the black-eyed peas, removing any debris. Place the peas in the slow cooker along with chopped onion, minced garlic, and the ham hock or smoked turkey leg.
