There are parts of Newhaven that go untraversed, where the air is deathly cold and the alleys darkened with fear. Those who creep through the pathways have shady motives and less than moral attitudes, their gaze shifting back and forth watching for a lone victim to strike. Not one car patrols the area looking for thugs, the citizens know better than to send their protectors into the den of death. There is no sound but the silent moan of lost souls as time stands completely still.

It is no place for a hero of the night to find himself within for the darkness works to corrupt any form of goodwill. But as he walked the empty halls of a ragged building, footsteps rebounding off every wall, no one dared to approach him but instead stared with an obedient gaze. Arms falling to their sides as he walked past, leaving their body open for the kill, a silent sign of trust. When he stopped the room froze with him, no steady breath could be heard but his own. When he moved towards a handle his surroundings visibly relaxed but only when he was fully out of sight did the people return to their conversations once again.

The room he entered was much different than the others, well kept and organized, though that failed to surprise him. He took two long strides until he was close enough to stare down at a younger gaping figure. The other was clearly surprised and began to comment on the vigilante’s superb ability in locating the unknown, but were cut off by a quick hand movement and a deeper glare. They knew their taunting would fail to work, the fighter’s will too strong. There was no benefit in asking the vigilante how he learned where they were stationed, they knew his contacts ran almost deeper than their own. It would be terrifying if they weren’t so enchanted by the beauty of someone who teetered so dangerously on the line of good and evil.

“You of all people, I would have never imagined to step foot in a sin-ridden place such as this. Well,” a pause “When I first met you that is. I have been watching you from the very beginning, and who you are now would most definitely frighten who you were back then. Your innocence is lost.”

“Innocence is a word used to frighten people into compliance, you aren’t stupid Persona, you know I won’t be shaken by some petty insult.” His hand came down upon the desk with a loud snap. Adrenaline began to pump through his veins as his body naturally readied itself for combat, he puffed out a foggy breath as the room dropped to an almost chill freeze. “It would be wise of you to take caution with how you treat me, I am not your normal customer. I will not be paying you with money but instead a guarantee that you leave with your life after this transaction is over.”

Behind the sly smile Persona held so easily on his face, he clenched his teeth in exasperated frustration. Europa showed no clear sign of emotion, he wasn’t calm, it was simply void. There was nothing for the other to read, his normal tactics were useless against someone who failed to care. “I assume you’re going to ask me to erase all the data I have on Caspian and your Scotland?” The question received a firm no leaving Persona bumbling out an incoherent mumble.

“I want to know who’s at the top.” It was a rather simple demand, one that Persona could easily fulfill, it was asked almost daily by those who wished to topple the hierarchy and cause panic. But in this instance he paused. Furrowing his brow, upset by how Europa’s story had unfolded, he rose slowly and approached the vigilante.

“It saddens me to see you like this. You have so much potential to change the land you lay on, why would you want to rule with fear?”

“Wrong.” the room shook “I want respect, it's more potent than fear.”

“You don’t have to do this,” he reached up to place a hand softly onto Europa’s cheek but the other was quick to move and grabbed Persona’s wrist tightly in their clutch. The more he struggled the more Europa’s grasp tightened.

“Don’t play games with me, I know who you are, I know better than to let your hand brush against my skin. My demand is simple and I expect you to fulfill it, I have people to protect and the only way to do so is to rise to the top. If respect’s potency fails I will gladly switch to rage, it would be best for you to begin on the right side of the war.” The coldness in his voice pricked at Persona’s skin until he was forced to cower. At the sign of compliance, Europa dropped the other’s arm and waited for his document.

Persona carefully handed him the paper, pulling away when he felt a slight tug, “You’ve lost your way, you are no hero.
