I've not posted about this Haemanthus in so long, but it's still here and kicking. This plant is older than me. I separated the pup on the right a few years ago.
It's hard to tell the size, but that's a 80 L trashcan on the right of it.

Haemanthus albiflos
This South African bulb belongs to the Amaryllis Family, and unlike some of its relatives it is evergreen. The broad green leaves have a fringe of hair along their margins. The cluster of white flowers usually emerges in the fall, and is followed by large berry-like seeds. Plants offset in time to make a clump.

Haemanthus coccineus. August 2022.
Some other cool pals I saw at Indoor Sun Shoppe. Boophane haemanthifolia is one of my wishlist plants but I decided against it because itβs probably too big for my space and Iβd probably get stressed out. πππ It also has a lot of crannies for mealybugs to sneak into. They have a lot of caudiciforms and geophytes for Seattle peeps who love those!
Haemanthus (literally, βblood flowerβ) is also a good genus. Itβs the one with the paintbrush looking flowers.

Plant of the Day

In October my houseplant Haemanthus albiflos (paintbrush) flowered with small white flowers held within greenish-white bracts. This evergreen bulbous perennial has now produced a few orange-red berries each one of which contains a white pearl-like seed which I hope will germinate.

Haemanthus flowers always look like an interactable item from World of Warcraft. The common name for them is in fact "Blood Lily" so they even sound like a World of Warcraft item!
This one lured my mother and I straight through a patch of nettles: this is why you wear long trousers when adventuring, kids! I made it out of that one unscathed, she did not.
