Make 8 single crochets into the first chain (For larger hackysack, make 9. For giant, make 10.)

Slip stitch to close

Chain 1, single crochet into the same stitch.

Single crochet twice into each stitch around. (VVV)

Slip stitch to close, chain 1, single crochet into the same stitch.

One single crochet in the next stitch, two into the one after that, then one, then two, all the way around (IVIVI)

Slip stitch to close, chain 1, single crochet into the same stitch.

Make five rows in a row of one single crochet into each stitch around. Add more rows to make the hackysack taller like a hotdog, or fewer to make it wider and flatter like a hamburger.

Slip stitch to close and chain 1 as normal, one single crochet into the next stitch, then single crochet two together OR skip a stitch for the next. Then one single crochet, repeating all the way around (IXIXI)

Fill now. Trying not to spill. A funnel is helpful.

Cut a medium length tail, fasten off yarn.

Use the hook to pull the tail through EITHER the top OR bottom loop of each stitch left, pulling the tail towards the center hole.

When you have reached the front again, gently but firmly pull the tail to cinch the opening shut. Then use your hook to make a slip stitch somewhere at the bottom end to secure.

Weave the tail through a few stitches if you want, or simply just the hook to pull it inside the ball and hide it.

Fill with Canna lily seeds for a heavier hackysack, maybe clean cabbage palm seeds for a lighter one. Can also be filled with cotton or polyfill to make a soft ball. Filling with beans not recommended.

Can be washed with cold water and soap, and dried in front of a fan.

Yeah, uhhhh now Hackysack has a friendo. Kinda. I’m still deciding on their name but for now it’s just Hackysack’s bard friend that may or may not have been sent by their government to arrest them for ransom, but doesn’t know that’s what they’re doing. They were just sent to pick up a frog that was supposedly magical and rumored to be a God (but is actually just a bipedal frog with a convenient bag of glitter and way too much spite for his little body.) but you knew that already ;)
