Guishan said to Yangshan, "The Nirvana Sutra has about forty chapters of the Buddha's teaching; how many of these are devil teachings?" Yangshan said, "All of them." Guishan said, "From now on nobody will be able to do what he likes with you." Yangshan said, "From now on what should be my mode of life?" Guishan said, "I admire your [Eye of the Law]; I am not concerned about the practical side of the matter."

On July 14, the cargo vessel Jia Yuan 19 caught fire in the Pearl River off Guishan, China. The Jia Yuan 19 was at anchored off Guishan when a fire broke out in one of the crew’s cabins. The fire quickly grew out of control and the vessel requested assistance. Authorities dispatched a vessel to the scene which was able to bring the fire under control after several hours. No reports of injuries to the six crew on board the Jia Yuan 19. Reports state the cargo vessel was en route to a shipyard for repairs. No details to the extent of damage caused to the vessel.

Sages since time immemorial have only explained the problems of pollution. If one does not have all that false consciousness, emotional and intellectual opinionatedness, and conceptual habituation, one is clear as autumn water, pure and uncontrived, placid and uninhibited. Such people are called Wayfarers, or free people.

The mind of a Wayfarer is plain and direct, without artificiality. There is no rejection and no attachment, no deceptive wandering mind. At all times seeing and hearing are normal. There are no further details. One does not, furthermore, close the eyes or shut the ears (i.e. annihilate the senses); as long as feelings do not stick to things, that will do.
