Requested: can you do a headcanon with Harry always being a third wheel with Ron and y/n

A/N: They are by no means as young as they are in the gif, but this was just the most fitting gif that I could find

Summary: Dating Ron when Harry’s a third wheel

You were friends with the two boys since your first year

You’d done everything together

And by everything, it really was everything

It even involved going with terrible dates to the Yule ball together when all you had wanted was to go with Ron

After the Yule ball had been when you started dating

You couldn’t contain your jealousy any longer

When you started going on dates you had assumed it would only be the two of you

But Harry seemed to stick to you like glue

It hadn’t been that you were complaining

There wasn’t anything wrong with Harry

And you definitely enjoyed the time you’d shared with him in your friendship

However it didn’t help when it came to your relationship with Ron

You couldn’t hold his hand without feeling how awkward the atmosphere became around you because of Harry

You also couldn’t ever share your first kiss with him around all the time

It had almost happened once

You were inches away from each other

Feeling Ron’s breath fan your face

But Harry clearing his throat made the both of you jump apart

You’d finally found a way to steal Ron away without Harry following

Thanking Cho in your mind when he’d been too occupied talking to her

You took it upon yourself to kiss him right then and there

Not wanting to deal with the rest of your relationship getting put on pause because of Harry’s presence

A little kiss seemed to do the trick

You couldn’t get enough of each other after that

And it definitely made Harry want to put some distance between you when you were constantly sucking face

“You’re Maria, yes?” Severus asks.

You nod.

“A Gryffindor, eh?” Severus continues, pointing at your tie.

“Do you have a problem with that, sir?” You ask, a challenge in your voice.

“No.”

“Then what?”

“I do not appreciate your tone of voice, young lady.  You are treading on very thin ice.”

You grit your teeth and look up at him, trying not to grimace. 

“Hmph, that’s nowhere near better, but I suppose it will have to do,” he said, flicking off an invisible bit of lint from his shoulder before turning his head to look down his nose at you. “I shall give you three guesses as to why I am about to assign you a detention. If you can guess correctly, you will receive a one-time get-out-of-trouble card.”

You gulp, trying to remember what you could possibly have done wrong.  You look down at your shoes and check to make sure your uniform and robes are in order.

Severus looks bored. “Not even close.”

You frown and rack your brain. Then your eyes widen.

“I got it!” you exclaim.

“Go on, then,” Severus replies, looking dubious.

“Here you go, professor! I read that in Muggle schools, they do this all the time!” you exclaim as you pull a shiny red apple from your pocket and hand it out to him with a triumphant grin.

Severus shakes his head slowly, a nasty smirk on his lips. “One more chance to avoid scrubbing chamberpots with Filch.”

You look around, trying to stall as your mind whirls.

“I do not have all day, you know.” Severus crosses his arms and taps his foot impatiently.

Suddenly, there’s an earth-shattering BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG and you hear the rush of wings as a ton of birds scatter into the air.  Your eyes grow wide as Severus glares up at the ceiling as though cursing the source of the noise.

“I know what it is! I’m late for class!” You exclaim, delighting in the disappointed look on the Potions master’s face.

“Very good.  It only took you forever and a day to realize it,” Severus says glumly. “Now, then, a promise is a promise. Get to class now or I shall not hesitate putting you in detention the next time we cross paths.”
