About two and a half weeks ago I took this photo of these lovely spring blooms in Groesbeek, Netherlands. I don’t know about you, but for me there is no spring without the cheerful yellow of the daffodils! It made me so happy to see this beautifully designed flower bed! And I hope that it brings some joy to you as well today! I visited my 87 year old mom in Germany for ten days and we decided to make a short trip to the Netherlands during which this image was taken, so it is very special to me. The first cases of confirmed Coronavirus infections had just surfaced in Germany. How the world has changed in such a short period of time. I am so grateful that I could spend this time together with my mom and return back to the US on time as planned. It wouldn’t be possible today anymore! On a different note, I would like to thank everyone who commented on and liked my last post. After a pause in posting on Instagram for ten months I was blown away by the warm welcome back that so many of you have given to me. There were such an amount of comments that I have not been able to get back to all of you, yet. I am still trying though, but I wanted to let all of you know this way how much I appreciate all your lovely responses to my previous post! This is 75 years ago today, but it wasn’t just Arnhem. I was born&raised in Groesbeek which was a landingsite for the American 82nd Airborne Division to take nearby Waalbridge in Nijmegen.
I now live in Nijmegen and actually volunteer at a WW2 Bunker(from the Nazi’s) and a WW2 information centre in Nijmegen, which is lead by the recently reopend as the Freedom museum(formerly Liberationmuseum) in Groesbeek, built on one of the landingplaces in Groesbeek.
This battle is also in the movie A Bridge Too Far.

Pvt. Claude Wilber Derrick was the son of Richard and May Isabel (Shannon) Derrick of Canterbury, New Brunswick. After being killed in action on March 2,1945, in Germany, he was first laid to rest in a temporary cemetery in Bedburg.
