First of all, these words are bullshit. These are labels, just like faggot, dyke, and every other racial and ethnic slur out there. Because people use these labels to devalue and belittle people, and to try and assert their dominance over other people, especially in the gay community. As I’ve said before, I live in a Bible Belt state, where a lot of guys feel that they have to put on a certain “masculine” act, in order to fit in and not be ostracized for being attracted to other men, especially during childhood. But too often, that carries over into their adult lives, where they deem other men who are not as masculine to be effeminate and, therefore, weaker/immediately less attractive/lesser “men”... And I’m asked regularly on apps, “Are you masc or fem?” And the only thing I can say is that I’m me. I don’t feel one way or the other. I don’t put on a show to try and be “macho”, nor do I do things that people would consider “girly”. I’m just me. And people act so confused by that, like that’s not a legitimate answer. The truth is, I don’t put that much thought into every little action I take throughout the day to try and conform to one end of the spectrum or the other. I support self-expression when it is healthy and meant as a means of celebrating individuality and the right to be who you are.  I don’t support the use of language and the perpetuation of stereotypes that stigmatize and tear down the identities of other people. I understand that there are things that we are all naturally attracted to, and other things that we’re just not. But why do guys have to be such ignorant assholes? Why can’t we just be civilized and say, “Hey, you seem like a cool person. But I’m just not feeling it.”? That would be too easy...
