Chimney has cellular regeneration (how else did he survive the rebar with zero consequences)

Hen has a healing touch (paramedic and doctor!)

Athena has a voice of persuasion (it's how she gets literally everyone to listen)

Bobby has pyrokinesis (he got drunk and lost control and literally burned down the apartment)

Eddie has intangibility/phasing (idk why exactly, I have reasons for everyone else's powers. It would be very useful as a firefighter though, and he could still get shot because he didn't see it coming. Honestly I just got super attached to the idea and I can't get myself to change it)

Buck has the ability to use the abilities of anyone he's close to or comes into contact with (like Peter Petrelli from Heroes. It's hard on him because he feels like he doesn't have an identity of his own)

Maddie has precogniton (it's why she knew she couldn't leave Doug because she saw what he would do to her, etc. It only works with the close future)

Chris has technopathy (with technophobe Eddie as a dad, this is just extremely funny to me)

Michael has telepathy (which made the brain tumor even more terrifying because who knows what could happen with that)

May has adaptive muscle memory (which is why she's good at pretty much everything we've ever seen her attempt to do)

"You think I should get tested for rabies?" Buck asks the nearly empty locker room, the thought tumbling unbidden from his mouth. He frowns at the abrasions on his arm, shiny from the salve Hen lathered on after his shower. He glances up at the only other person in the room through his eyelashes, long enough to meet their questioning gaze. "You know, just in case," he sniffs. His face warms under the fluorescent lights.

Eddie crosses over to the bench in two long strides, hand outstretched in a silent demand.

Buck lays his wrist there obediently and looks up, up, up, pretending not to notice the expanse of bare skin right in front of his nose. He trains his eyes on the ceiling and braces for more poking and prodding; he'd already gotten plenty of it from Hen, but—he could tolerate a little more. This was Eddie, after all. Eddie who had gotten as far as putting on jeans before Buck opened his mouth.

"I thought you said you got this from the tree," Eddie says, fondness hiding behind his gentle teasing. He starts to lean down for a closer look but stops with a huff of quiet laughter. He lets go of Buck's arm without warning and stands up again. "How do you still have twigs in your hair?" he admonishes, and automatically begins sifting through Buck's helmet-flattened curls.

"Didn't wash it," Buck admits, closing his eyes at the first touch of his gentle fingers. "And it was from the tree, but it could have rubbed off on the bark or something. Right?"

"Possums can't carry rabies, Buck. Their body temp is too low."

Buck tips his head back to look up at him, ignoring Eddie's noise of discontent at the interruption. "How d'you know that?"

"You don't have a monopoly on googling," Eddie says coolly. He presses his fingertips into Buck's crown, forcing his head down again, and leans closer until Buck's nose is practically in his chest.

Not that he's comaining. He puts his hands on Eddie's hips braces to maintain at least the illusion of distance.

"Besides," Eddie continues, either oblivious or entirely too comfortable with the arrangement. "When we realized what you were 'rescuing' wasn't actually a cat, Hen wanted to know what we should do with it."

"I see," Buck says, but he's only half listening; there's a freckle two inches from his nose, and he's too busy fighting the urge to let Eddie fall into him so he can taste it.

Eddie runs his fingers from Buck's forehead all the way to the nape of his neck and gives his hair a little tug. "All clear," he says. He goes to pull back and doesn't get far, caught as he is in Buck's grip.

"Thanks," Buck says, and stretches forward to press a chaste kiss to the freckle. He freezes as soon as he realizes what he's done, fingers tightening around Eddie's hips. "Sorry," he whispers, too afraid to look up.

But Eddie tightens his grip on the back of his neck, squeezing. "It's okay. Nobody saw."

Buck relaxes and forces himself to let go, not just so Eddie can finish getting dressed but also so they don't get caught. He misses the contact as soon as they separate, keeps his eyes glued to Eddie's back even after it disappears under a clean t-shirt.

"You coming over later?" Eddie asks, glancing over his shoulder. He's too good at this charade, and it isn't fair.

Buck has to rub the grit from his eyes before scanning the labels on the shelf, and finds himself immediately drawn to the glaring red Tylenol PM; it will both relieve his pain and send him off to a dreamless sleep. He snags one of the overpriced travel bottles and makes for the counter, detouring briefly to pick up a water and plunder a push pop from the freezer.

He exits the gas station a minute later, spoils cradled in the palm of one hand while he pats down his pockets with the other. His heart skips a beat when he comes up empty, but then the door closes behind him, cutting off the soft music playing inside. The cool night air is blanketed by the soft purr of his engine idling just a few feet away, and like a spent match, the panic fizzles out in his chest.

Muttering under his breath, he hustles around to the driver's side, and resolves not to tell Eddie he left the keys in his running car.

The Jeep is frigid by the time he gets back in, and he jabs at the knobs until the air conditioning stops blasting him in the face. He's grateful for Eddie's sweatshirt now more than ever, shivering under the gas station's pale fluorescent lights.

He considers the bottle of Tylenol; by his math, he can take it now and be back in bed with time to spare by the time it kicks in, saving himself a whopping ten minutes of suffering.

"Worth it," he says to the silent radio, and tosses two pills into his mouth. He chases them down with a few mouthfuls of water and tosses both bottles into the passenger seat so he can get moving. As his tires eat up the pavement, he uses his teeth to rip off the paper seal on his popsicle, and the sickly sweet ice cream helps him forget the chalky aftertaste of the medicine.

A few minutes and several licks later, the quiet presses in, unbearable and suffocating. He tries the buttons on his steering wheel, and when nothing happens, he reaches for the dashboard controls instead.

Ear-splitting thrasher music erupts all around him, and he jumps, jerking the wheel and dropping his popsicle in one fell swoop. The Jeep lurches dangerously toward the curb, and he stomps on the brake pedal, tires slipping on asphalt. He comes to a hard stop in the middle of the lane, adrenaline flooding his veins, perking him right up. He swiftly turns the volume down to a reasonable level, and then turns it off again, his panicked breaths loud to his own ears.

He slumps back in the seat with a sigh, and then, remembering his treat, peers down at the floor mat. "Aw, man," he whines, dismayed to find his ice cream smeared across the carpet. He only has a moment to mourn the loss before—

well it started out like this

and then buck talking abt all the mundane little things ppl are scared of and he just??? thinks its your run-of-the-mill chat where you explain to kids that it's ok to be scared but chris... doesnt seem reassured at all. in fact he fidgets and doesn't meet buck's eyes

until eventually buck kinda drops what hes doing to give chris his undivided attention when he asks, "what's this about, buddy?"

and all chris' fears just BURST forth and he confesses abt what he said at christmas (tho, of course, buck already knows) and then its about him telling chris hes scared of that too, like all the time
