Based on a lot of details in Morty's room, I feel like he was a science nerd growing up.

The science flaglette, the reptile chart, anatomy model on his dresser, test tubes in his shelf, solar system-themed rug, radio device (?) on his shelf, rocket ship on the table---all of it points to Morty having had a decent interest in science growing up.
