Ah, yes. The good ol' fire and ice dynamic. Rival relationships have a lot of deep-seated emotion already, so it's not hard to see how that can easily transition to some kind of romantic attachment. It's clear the two care very lot about each other, at the end of the day when all competition is put aside. They'd totally feed into each other's boisterousness. One day they're fist-fighting in the guild hall, the next they're dancing around best buds. Depends on the day LOL. Their Unison Raid would be fabulous, though. Imagine being frozen and burned simultaneously? Yikes! All-around good potential for two guys who encourage only the best from each other!

A pokemon AU: The story will be told from Natsu’s perspective. 

Gray wants to be the best trainer. Competes in leagues and all that jazz.

Explanation: 

He got Squirtle as his starter. 

Vulpix was a gift from his father, who went to Alola for a reason. And then caught the others.

Gray’s story is a classic story. At 13, he got his first pokemon -Squirtle-. Then he was allowed to begin his journey. 

Natsu: He wants to be a pokemon coordinator.

Explanation: 

When Natsu turned 10, he got Eevee as a gift from Zeref. Then later Eevee evolved into Espeon. 

He knew Gengar back when he was a Haunter. And when he turned 10, he added Haunter to his team. 

Sableye, because I low-key really like Sableye.

 -An idea my sister said that since Espeon is physic it can use telepathy and maybe talk to the trainer? Idk, I was just gonna have a Pikachu and Ash/Satoshi kinda deal. Any thoughts?

It would be kinda funny if it could happen, just some kid talking to himself while his Espeon chills next to him.-

Backstory:

He lives with his brother, Zeref, who isn’t an asshole. Zeref is a gym leader, a dark-type gym leader, and because of this, Natsu knows a lot about Dark-types. 

From early on Natsu wanted to be a coordinator, but never thought he’d get the chance. Enter Gray. Also, “ALL POKEMON ARE BEAUTIFUL.” In their own special way. 

I have not put any thought into Lucy’s backstory or team. All I got is she isn’t too interested in coordinating or leagues. She just wants to travel and be away from her father. 

For Erza: I think I am going to have her be a pokemon researcher. 

“You... You’re a Guide?” Natsu managed at least. It was kind of obvious, but he wanted to hear it from Gray anyway.

Gray nervously rubbed his neck with his hand.

“Ah... Yes... I always kept it hidden, wasn’t keen to have this government idiots annoying me. But since they figured it out now, I guess there’s no point in keeping it to myself anylonger... I... Do you mind?”

At that, Natsu blinked confused. “Why would I mind?”

Gray shrugged, visibly more relaxed now that his worry proved to be obviously unnecessary. “Well, there are many who make a fuss over it, when they find out that someone is a Guide or Sentinel. Many start to treat them differently, either deliberately or unconsciously. Maybe Guides have it easier, still, but with Sentinels... There are just too many prejudices,” he sighed, at which Natsu could only nod, understanding.

It has been two days since Gray and Natsu finally confessed their feelings for each other – two days since they were together. And Gray couldn’t be any happier. He had always felt helpless when it came to the topic of love, had felt unsure since he lost his family and Ur to Deliora, was scared to again lose someone he loved, scared to lose Natsu, so he had desperately tried to cork up his feelings for the fire-breather deep inside him. But Natsu had swept in his life like a firestorm, had teared his barricades down without remorse and had taken his heart, unwilling to give it back.

With a vigorous thrust he pushed the girl away, who had just thrown herself at him and kissed him. He gaped at her in complete bewilderment.

“I’m sorry, princess. I’m flattered but unfortunately, I can’t reciprocate your feelings. I think I should go now... Excuse me, please...”

These words seemed to jolt Lucy Heartfilia, princess of the Kingdom of Fiore, out of her frozen state.

“Wait! What does this mean? Natsu, come back! Father promised me that I could choose the one I want to marry and that’s you! What’s wrong with me? You will have everything here your heart desires, I can make you happy! Who doesn’t wish to be a prince and the future king?”

Natsu’d paused for a moment to listen to what the princess had to say but after her outburst he continued walking without looking back, only mumbled one last answer: “All my heart desires? I don’t think so...” And with that he’d turned into the next hallway.
