Grayson king was the only child to a french princess and a stern navy colonel - something that gave him the inability to really ever get in touch with his feelings or ever make a solid decision. sure, he had the life of a prince - no pun intended - but when everyone wants to either be you or be with you, what really brings you happiness?Â
for grayson, it was usually his two best friends - the queen bee and the golden girl. the three of them were inseparable from an early age, and when puberty hit, it became incredibly obvious that hormones and emotions were suddenly at the forefront of all three of their minds. how was he supposed to choose between them, though, when they both clearly had the hots for him? like so much else, the choice was basically made for him - the queen bee made her move, and grayson just never fought it. the two were happy together - mostly - and despite a brief dalliance with the golden girl, he was mostly faithful. but when their brief tryst came out upon the golden girls return, everything fell apart.Â
suddenly he was facing choices unlike heâd ever have to before : did his fate lie with one of the two girls heâd loved his whole life, or maybe in the form of someone heâd never seen before, like the dreamer? and where was he supposed to go to college - brown, where his father had attended, yale, like his girlfriend wanted, or somewhere else altogether? did he even want to go to college?Â
after graduation, with everyone on the high of freedom, he left. grabbed the boat named for his paternal grandmother and disappeared into the ocean to try and find a level head. for almost six months, he stopped only along small coastal towns, trying to figure out what the future meant for him. just him, a joint, and the waves of the atlantic.Â
he had to return eventually, though, and a year later than all the rest of his friends, he started at harvard in their architecture program - building boats up at his familyâs compound in maine had really been the only time he was ever at peace - and now heâs found himself a low level job in an architecture firm, working on designing ships of all sizes. he came back to new york, alone and clear headed, and laid low while others flitted in and out of the city - but now that everyoneâs coming back, his quiet life feels like itâs about to be blown apart once again.Â

adelaide laurent - while it was adelaide who made the first move, grayson and her spent the better part of their high school years in a series of on again / off again relationships. thereâs not a lot grayson understands about life - he spent a lot of that time getting high in the park with his other friends, after all - but once upon a time, he knew everything that made adelaide tick, down to the distinct nail shades that reflected her moods.Â
they never actually officially ended things, but when adelaide went off to yale and grayson went off to sail the world, they fell apart. even upon his return - and subsequent years at harvard - they never came back together - at least until a few months ago. adelaideâs been hard at work making a name for herself, and while graysonâs been trying to work his way up the ladder of his architecture firm, he canât help but feeling a little lost. adelaide was always good at giving him direction - and reaching out to her for drinks now and again doesnât need to mean anything more than old friends reconnecting, right?Â
theodore cunningham - opposites of the same side of the coin, theodore was everything grayson wasnât. outspoken, arrogant, and rude to anyone he deemed unworthy, theodore was everyoneâs least favorite member of their little crew. except for grayson, who generally found him hilarious.Â
maybe it was the weed, or maybe it was the fact that theodore just never wanted anything from him, but the two were strange bedfellows. when he was wallowing over his many girl problems, theodore was pointing him in the direction of someone new - or giving him perspective. they were young, hot, and rich - who needed to settle down with any one specific girl when the world was their oyster, and they had so much left to live?Â
