Graymist was originally a loner named Gray who lived with her best friend Comfrey. The two of them wanted to raise kits together (they were not in love, to clarify, this is a reference to real-life cat behaviour where females cats will merge their litters and take care of them together). Unfortunately, Comfrey caught greencough soon after giving birth and she and most of her kits died, the only one left being Mint. Heartbroken (and currently pregnant), Gray took Mint and they joined RiverClan together, because Gray had heard they had cats who understood medicine.
Leopardstar in my rewrite never really cared about heritage, what she cared about was loyalty. She resented cats who were in half-Clan relationships, but not so much the kits, as long as they proved loyal. After Hawkfrost and Mothwing, two Loners, also turned out to be successful Clan members and loyal cats, she extended this philosophy to outsiders as well. This led to Gray and Mint being allowed in relatively easily.
Leopardstar's redemption arc also starts early in my rewrite, but I'll save this for later. There was a multitude of reasons for this, including but not limited to an explanation for why Mistyfoot came back so easily.

Graymist considers herself pretty lucky. She has a loving mate and son, friends who look out for each other and are dependable, and leadership who are dedicated to guarding the most vulnerable members of the colony. Graymist thanks the spirits that her baby, Stone, didn’t have to go through the hardships that Graymist did as a kitten.
When shade coyotes attacked Field Colony, Graymist had been one of the oldest kittens at the time, but that didn’t make her anymore ready to witness her friends get carried off as pieces of prey. Daisy, Periwinkle, Gale…and Oat…Graymist will never forget them.
Graymist supposes that the few of them who did survive, they all found ways to live with the pain. Forestleaf dedicated herself to her work. Shadowclaw and Toadstalk would take it out in passionate bursts of energy, and Moorbug and Meadowleap seemed to confide well in each other until Moorbug passed away. Graymist would sometimes join in with them, and often sat with Meadowleap at Moorbug’s resting place on the New Moon.
For Graymist though, the best remedy for her sadness was spending time with her loving, cheerful, playfully optimistic mate: Fleetfoot. Not all things were bad, and Fleetfoot was living proof of that.
Steadystone assigned himself and Fleetfoot to a medicine-gathering mission. While they were gone, they would pick a few stems of lupine and place them where Graymist had been buried, and tell her all about what had happened when Captain Spottedshadow came back to Field Colony.
