the fish of reference was from a paused frame of a live camera in the lower florida keys!
juveniles have a dark stripe across the eye that fades with age. i didn't draw the stripe but it's very cute! it can sometimes be seen on adult snappers as an indicator of stress.
fun fact: they can reach up to 40lbs!
