YOU ARE GOD'S BLESSING And we know this to be true because of 📖 Genesis 12:1-3 introduces the beginning of God's relationship with Abram; this is the earliest history of the nation of Israel. (📖Genesis 40:20 the name in blessing 📖 Exodus 19:4-6). Now in 📖 Genesis 12:1–9 is a landmark passage in the Bible. God calls Abram to leave his people and land behind. He also promises to bless Abram and to make his descendants into a great nation who will one day occupy the land of Canaan. Though childless, and with no obvious path to becoming a father of an entire civilization, Abram begins to 🙌🏾 worship the Lord in the land of Canaan, traveling through the land and building altars to God. Although Abram has no way of knowing that for sure. Instead, Abram will have to trust God to keep His promises (📖 Hebrews 6:13–18). Knowing what we know now about the history of God's relationship with Israel, it's clear that God keeps His promises. (📖 Deuteronomy 34:1–4; 📖 Joshua 1:1–9). ADVENT SEASON Advent marks the start of a season of preparation that looks forward to the celebration of Christmas and the second coming of Christ. It is a time of reflection in preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ—we remember how our Savior humbled Himself to be born as a baby and live among those He would save. We remember the perfect life He lived doing the will of His Father, His sacrificial death on the cross, and how He was raised from the dead three days later, having paid the penalty in order to save all who would believe. Christians remember Jesus' promise to return again one day and restore everything fully. This season invokes feelings of expectation and hope! The word Advent comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “arrival” or “coming” from the word advenire (ad- “to” venire “come”). Advent is a reminder of how the Jewish people waited for the Messiah and how Christians and Messianic Jews wait for the second coming of Christ, today. When Does Advent Begin in 2020? Advent also marks the start of the new liturgical year, and it always begins on Advent Sunday, which is the fourth Sunday before Christmas day. What Are the Four Advent Sundays? Generally, the themes that correspond to each week fall into these categories: Week 1: Hope (or promise) Week 2: Preparation (or waiting or prophecy) Week 3: Joy (or peace) Week 4: Love (or adoration) While the differences in weekly Advent themes may be confusing, we can unite in our desire to quiet our hearts during a hectic holiday season and worship Jesus. And the good news is that you can definitely mix and match these weekly themes with various Advent readings that will best serve your congregation or your family. DOING GOOD TO ALL PEOPLE Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. 📖 Galatians 6:10 In Galatians 6:1–10 focuses on how those in Christ should treat each other, through the power of God's Spirit. We should restore those caught in sin with gentleness and humility, and we should help to carry each other's burdens. Having said that, Christians should be honest with ourselves about what God is doing through us. We need to take responsibility for what He has asked us to carry. Because eternal life comes from planting God's Spirit by faith in Christ, and not by works of the flesh, we must keep doing good.
