the ultimate beginner metadata tutorial !! by a dummy :3
HEY PALS AND PEOPLE doing some tips and tutorials ,,,, kinda explaining the metadata that people do in rentry
the site already have a "tutorial" on the "how" window, these on the post are the ones who need further explanation
i will put in topics and try to do my best on this, its a long read!
• the border i will be using for example its by @/suturical on this post
• now, how to understand this and make the magic happen?
GOTCHA!!!
1. Borders: container adjustements
• the least important thing is the container width, you can put as you please but i use it on 400px — 610px, its just my recommendation
• now the padding is important, its basically the distance between the border and the elements of your rentry
• example: padding on 25px
• example: padding 20px
2. Borders: slice
• the image slice is basically how much it will slice your border and repeat it, i recommend using it 20% – 40%, however adjust as you please!
• example: slice 37%
• example: slice 23%
big difference isnt it? and i only changed the slice part, nothing else!
3. Borders: width
• basically the width of the border, adjust as you please but i also recommend to put on 30px as its the maximum size you can put
• example: width 30px
• example: 15px width
4. Borders: repeat
• this is another thing that dont have much secret and explanation about, there are 4 repeating types for borders, they are:
• stretch: will stretch the original size of the border across the entire container
• round: most used, 'normal', will make your border get around the container
• repeat: will repeat a certain part of the graphic image across the sides
• space: will give space between the repetitions
• onto the next part, text!
2. Text: font applying
• ngl its pretty simple, first catch ANY font of the google fonts site and do like the screenshot above, detail, if you font name has a space between the name (example: playfair display) you MUST put the _ to substitute the space, or it won't work
• but if the font name doesn't have any spaces, write it normally
2. Text: text size
• also really simple, explore the sizes on the rentry, i use it 10px – 25px, adjust to your liking!
2. Text: coloring
• tired of coloring all sentences manually? just do the code from screenshot and input your color! it can be written like i did or the hex code/whatever!
• you can still color things manually even when using this
• final with all these changes:
SO THATS IT! the most important actually :33
hope it isnt confusing, any questions please send an ask!
tagging oomfie @chokingonchairs bc finally got the courage to make this and yu asked for hehe ^___^

hey guys i figured out how to draw “lipstick kiss” in MS Paint
if you want fantastic adequate results like THIS,
all you have to do is:
1) draw the lipstick kiss (pictures embiggened to show texture): (also if you draw it better it’ll look better)
2) click “Brushes” and select “Airbrush” option (your path to the “Airbrush” option may vary from those pictured depending on your version of MS Paint)
3) right-click Airbrush to erase lips and add sprinkles of “background” / transparency, to simulate the incomplete nature of the transfer of lipstick onto a surface!
(best results may occur by using the Largest brush-size for Airbrush, and clicking briefly. Or not).
Anyway that’s today’s MX PAINT trick, for all you doing the time warp again to a simpler graphics tool.
could i please have some tips for making graphic and running an editblr account? /nf! whenever i try to make any graphic it just looks messy and empty :(
tips for graphics ! still by a dummy :3
WAITT IM PART OF THE EDITBLR? *cries in happinesd*
but anyways these are my tips and what i personally do , yu may do what yu like too !
link bc i alr made one but i felt like explaining more
i quite didnt get the 'running an editblr acc' sorry ! but yu still can send another ask explaining
1. Graphics
• for my single rentry graphics, before anything i always mentalize what i want to show, or what i want for others to see, for example highlight some icon, or render then i make my graphic around that thing
• also doing a quick sketch or seeing inspirations are a good way to improve
• example about the sketch and highlight thing:
• the complements are only random pngs that i think it would fit the aesthetic/be eye pleasing among all things
• ALSO USE!! COLORS!! explore gradient maps and pngs, only this can make yur graphic pop up, as well as overlays
BUT THANKYU FOR READINF
I THINK ITS ONLY THIS ? i already made another post with graphic tips somewhere.. well i may link it here when i find it
Uh. I'm sorry if this is a weird question (or just a hard one to answer) but how do you make your layouts/graphics/whatnot? Like I understand it's done in some editing program of ur choice but like. Idk.
I guess what I mean is how did you develop ur editing style? I've tried to make cute layouts and such myself before, but it's never rlly worked out. Just wondering if you have any advice for starters lol. no pressure ofc, you don't gotta give away trade secrets or nothin
HAI OKAY HAIII I LOVE THIS QUESTION !!! Can’t promise banger answers or explanations theough :3
I’ll put everything past here under a cut cuz it gets lengthy and I may decide to add onto it in the future :333
Apologies in advance for any grammar/spelling mistakes n sentences that may not make complete sense !! :3
Collect inspiration/references !!!
Cool mutuals and oomfs that allow inspo are probably the best for this,, but that does NAWT mean steal their work or copy it entirely (obviously..) !!! If you like the colours,, save it for later. If you like the style, save it for later. Save ANYTHING that stands out to you in a positive way!!!!!!! Just collecting references and mushing them together to see what works helps a lot with finding a style and being happy with your work :3
Work with things you know !!!
I am incredibly guilty of not doing this,, but working with media/characters you know and like comes a lot easier than working with media or characters you’ve never even seen before :3 From my experience,, you usually get better results because you understand what you’re working with :3
Use colours to your advantage !!!
Not to say yu need to understand every little thing about colour theory and how it all works (cuz even I don’t) but just seeing what shades and hues work together can help a lot with the visual appeal of your graphics !!! And definitely don’t be afraid of black :3 Though I do suggest experimenting with coloured alternatives before going straight to using black as your darkest colour :3 What colours work best together is a HIGHLY subjective topic heowever !!
(poorly crafted comparison :3)
Textures/patterns are your friends !!!
This is also very subjective,, but nine times out of ten textures and patterns help to improve graphics :3 They vary shades and tones across the graphic if its looking too flat or there’s too much of one shade/colour in some places !!! It can also just make them more interesting to look at because it has more going on :333
(another visual because I said so :3)
Don’t compare yourself to others !!!
Obviously its good to compare your work and your refs/inspo for similarities if you’re trying to achieve a certain style !!! But comparing online attention or the amount of time spent can be draining and demotivating, as well as having the potential to affect the other person by indirectly pressuring them into feeling the need to perform at the same standard every time they post :3
You won’t like everything you make !!!
Like everything else,,, not everything will be something you’re proud of n that’s oki !!! Look at it and determine what it is you don’t like about it, and keep that in mind for future work :3 Editing style is something that has somewhat of a constant development,, so not everything will look the same or as nice as some other graphics !!! :3
Extra !!!
I’ll eventually add links to tutorials and other posts with advice here… trust…….

Helloo! You have very wonderful graphics and layouts! ♡ if I may ask, do you have any tips on making graphics?
-@tuesdaysmotell
tips for graphics :3 !!!!!!
(or just things i do.. except im bad explaining)
1. Composition
• so initially for the graphic composition, i like to take pngs and transparents all of the same "vibe" if yu get me.. ex. a webcore themed graphic i will take things that remind/or is inside it, for steampunk themed i will take gears and etc etc.
but dont be afraid to mix up! for example yu can see some keys, flowers that i put on some.
• and put as many pngs that yu can! limit doesn't exist, but keep in mind that yu still need to produce something more "eye pleasing", both to yu and the people thats gonna see it, to draw attention, yu got it.
• plan something before, sure, doing things from your mind in the moment can turn out pretty good but mentalize some idea to make it easier to follow and consequently better! it seems dumb but it does makes a difference.
2. Colors
• i take colors very seriously, so my tip is dont be afraid to mix up and use a big variety of color combos yu see :33333
3. Overlays
• USE!!!! IT!!!!! AS MUCH AS YU WANT!!!!! play with the overlay settings and positions, the more yu explore the better it gets
also tip, color the overlay with the same color scheme as yur graphic, just trust mwe it gets better
I THINK ITS THE END???? SWORRY IF I SAID SHIT OR SOMETHING WRONG IM JUST SAYING WHAT I DO OR WHATEVER
took me 3 days and i finished this while baking cookies bye
i literally haven't touched ps for ages but along with traditional/digital art, graphic making is something i would also like to get into but where do i start? i've been using ps for years but everything i do turns out rubbish :c so i haven't used it for anything much and i always get the insp to do it after looking at graphics on TDA but then i'm reminded how awful they turn out. i could always start with tutorials but after tutorials i don't know what i should do then
There are only two pieces of advice I’m certain of regarding any kind of creative pursuit:
You have to put in a lot of hours of work - the kind of work that challenges yourself. When I started making graphics in photoshop, I was making graphics at least once a week. I clicked through every menu, every tool, to see what was available to me. I rarely used the same images or resources or fonts twice, so everything I was creating was at least that much different. When you’re self-teaching, there’s no “starting point.” You learn what your tools do and some fundamental concepts, and then you create. Constantly.
You need to find your inspiration and drive. No one can give that need to create, except yourself. You found inspiration, but your drive is what makes you create despite knowing how badly it’s going to turn out, or how many hours it’s going to take, or whatever it is that’s holding you back. It’s a lot of stubborn masochism, and it never ends. Every author or artist I know has a love/hate relationship with their craft, but we’re in it because we have a need to be and it’s ultimately rewarding. Every person is different. You might have to find the right environment or community in order to thrive. Explore. Persevere.
As for any insecurities you might have about your current work, I wrote this for writers, but it’s pretty applicable to any creative pursuit:
No one makes great things until the world intimately knows their mediocrity. Don’t think of your writing as terrible; think of it as preparing to contribute something great.
thank you so much for answering about removing bkg of an image! my other question is about the fly away strands of hairs which i can never concentrate enough on and it turns out horrible, is there any easier method to getting around the smaller loose strands of hair?
Not anything I abide by! If you look at my graphics, almost none of them have flyaway hair except those where I used the entire image. In the few cases that I do, the original image was probably very large, so it’s easier to cut. I really don’t have the patience for it :’D I’m all about having the illusion of the correct shape–you don’t have to cut things perfectly if people don’t notice anyway. When you’re finished cutting around the hair, it should look like hair, even if it doesn’t necessarily look exactly like the hair the picture started with.
BUT if I really had to deal with cutting out flyaway hairs, I’d probably do a rough image mask of what I want to cut out, then use the brush tool and draw on the mask to refine the mask. You can apply image adjustments on masks as well (levels, curves, etc), so if the mask looks too fuzzy or messy, I can sharpen it by increasing the contrast (I just think of image masks as a black-and-white canvas).
