New Media Journalism- Final Project
I am so glad to be at the end, I am also very proud of myself for not giving up. Reflecting right now is deeper than the class itself, I am actually reflecting on this entire year and how much it took to get here.
Like every post before this one, I had no real idea of what I was getting myself into. My original goal was to take everything that I have learned in the past eleven months and apply the knowledge and skills to my final project. This would have been a great goal for my last class, seeing as though that was the class that required the complete multimedia project and this class we were writing the thesis. I was honestly afraid to get to this point. Although I knew the work and have progressed a lot through the program, I was not ready to write the thesis. I honestly do not think anyone was ready, and I did not feel prepared.
I am very pleased to say that I had the opposite experience than I expected and I would really recommend this way to anyone. A friend of mine had the pleasure of graduating in May but was to be done with her thesis by next month. I am really happy that Full Sail has it set up as a class and that we can go through it step by step as a class with editing and all. It was not like 20 pages up front, but just chapters at a time and it really helped with me a lot this way. I am really happy that I took the time and went back to school after getting my bachelors exactly 14 months prior to receiving this degree. I had several doubts and fears but I am glad that I did not let any of that stop me and now I can encourage everyone to take their program here. I am really going to miss being a student but I am glad to be entering the next stage of my life.

Multimedia Reporting
My original goal was to learn how to take raw material and footage and turn it into a newsworthy story worth reporting on all media outlets. I am sure that 8 months ago that sounded realistic, but now that Iβve gone through the program and the class, this should have been a goal two classes ago. Utilizing the writing center was one of the strategies that I wrote to obtain my goal and I didnβt. This is something that I know I must use for the remainder of my program, especially because grammar and punctuation is what I get marked down on most. What I realized is that I type things out exactly the way I would say them. So moving forward I think that setting appointments with the writing center, and also having my peers review my work will be beneficial to my success in the next few months. Although this class was less technical, it put me in the mind frame of being a real reporter and actually wanting to go out and cover real issues. I am getting past my fear of actually talking to people and conducting great interviews. Writing down interview tips and being prepared have definitely helped. This class also taught me information about my website and how to monetize my brand. I need to incorporate consistency with my stories so that my tags and keywords can easily be found on the different search engines. I also feel that I will start to pitch my stories to news outlets in hopes of internships or future career opportunities. The one thing that I will truly take from this class is slowing down and editing my work. As I mentioned my biggest downfall was grammar and punctuation and I donβt want things that like to hinder me from a job. I am glad to be moving on and becoming one step closer to graduation.
