Writing a doctoral thesis is not easy, quite obviously. I ordered Crumpled Paper Boat (2017) after it was recommended by one of the profs in my department, and since opening the mail from @bookdepository this morning, I can't wait to read it! I just started reading the prologue, and I'm hooked. Anand Pandian and Stuart McLean make the case of anthropological writing and its literary edge: "...what is conveyed here is the chance for something more profound and unsettling to happen through the play of image, voice, character, and scene, a transgression of the limits of individual identity and the fixity of the reality at hand. "Writing is inseparable from becoming," Gilles Deleuze writes, "always incomplete, always in the midst of being formed." We ask, with this book, what might become of anthropology if we cultivated such literary powers more assiduously." (p. 3-4) This spirit of experiment makes me giddy! #crumpledpaperboat #bookshelf #bookstagram #booksofig #bookworm #anthropology #phdlyf #gradschool #gradreading #thesis #dissertation
