Hey everyone! Ygritte and I wanted to make a sort of PSA since we’ve unfortunately seen a lot of missing posters for dogs in our surrounding communities—
—and whether that’s car-filled (sub)urban or wide open and dangerous in their own ways rural regions, it’s absolutely scary to lose your dog. Cats too, but this fix doesn’t really work for them because of the weight, unless they make much lighter GPS trackers (and they likely will in the future!).
This here is one of those Apple AirTags. Basically a geotag and it goes wherever your dog goes, the battery can usually last a whole year, is easily replaced too, and anyone who finds your dog can actually scan it using an app too! Or their microchip, but that requires your dog to have a microchip and for the person to bring them to the vet to scan the chip.
The absolutely wonderful thing about this AirTag is that it’s real-time tracking, not passive like the above example. You can quite literally open up your Find My iPhone app (or use the website if you have no Apple products other than AirTags—oh, and Tile tags are great too!!!) and see exactly where your doggo is. Or whichever family member constantly gets lost… the possibilities are endless lol.
Mum’s accidentally left Ygritte outside on more than one occasion and usually she doesn’t go far but the one time she did, we just hopped in the car with her leash and then went and fetched her with the convenient app map for the AirTag. This one isn’t mine and is an example, but you get the idea:
(Yup, even works in the conservation area with barely a bar—I didn’t lose her, we were just testing it out :P)
As mentioned before, people can use this app to scan AirTags that aren’t even in their circle and it’ll give you just enough info to get it back to the owner without giving out super personal information.
At the start of all this I eyed my dad skeptically, but holy moly this has been the best investment ever and they’re not like… stupidly expensive. I’m totally pulling the card though: if you love your doggo as much as I love mine, please invest in one of these or a similar technology.
Sadly, our escape-prone (on purpose) devil kittens are too tiny (so far) for the AirTag but we’re definitely planning for it when they’re bigger and/or the tech gets smaller.
Real time tracking of your escaped animals is a godsend.
Just please don’t goddamn track your spouses/SOs. There is such a thing as too little trust. But animals can’t exactly look after themselves fully in this situation and rely on us to care for and look for them.
I always will, Ygritte, my darling.
Have kitties, just because. And yes, Yggy is a big kitty. She was raised by an orange Manx and that explains everything lol.
Lots of inspiring climate news has been coming from Costa Rica in recent years. In the past 30 years, it has more than doubled its rainforest cover thanks to restricting logging permits and the forestry commission’s foundation to safeguard the forests. Since 2015, the Central American country has generated all...

In 1993, Steven Donziger became part of a legal team that began proceedings against Chevron for systemically polluting the land of the indigenous people in the oil-rich Lago Agrio area of Ecuador. The polluting was done between 1964 and 1992 by Texaco, which was later bought by Chevron. They won damages of $18 billion from an Ecuadorian court in 2011, later reduced to $9.5 billion – less than a tenth of Chevron’s 2019 turnover of $139 billion. Chevron, however, has not paid a cent of that. It instead turned its guns and money on Donziger, and has spent many millions – the target himself estimates it might actually be billions – in the battle against him. He’s been under house arrest for over 500 days, despite being convicted of no crime. He has been disbarred and vilified, had his bank accounts frozen, and now faces up to five months in jail. He is forced to wear a GPS device strapped to his ankle, and in order to leave his two-bedroom home in New York he needs permission 48 hours in advance.

Hey, saw your answered ask on microchips and how do microchips work? Are they tracking devices? I’m concerned as I want to leave my cult but don’t want to be traced
I'm assuming your talking about GPS tracking. The cult you are attempting to leave would have to have some financial resources to track you via GPS over any significant distance. The tracking device would have to be in your clothing, shoes, cell phone, jewelry, or car. To get rid of it, if you can't find it, dump all of those things, and buy new the day you leave. (Don’t take the car at all if you’re leaving)
If you are talking about an under the skin implant, the cult would have to have Government/Military backing for you to have this. You would have to have it removed.
