When a conversation goes wrong, the impact may be grave. When you are having a conversation, be sure you understand what the other person is saying before you make a step or decision. Always try (underline the word 'try') to see that you're understood as well. You've not communicated if the other person doesn't understand what you have said. This is one thing I try to do when I have to work with individuals.. Understanding. What a word means somewhere may differ somewhere else. You only know as much as you know.
