ah! ok! i didnt reply to this for a while because i was tired and still thinking, but i have thoughts ;w;

these are for both the movie and book, ill try explain: i rly love scifi about alien creatures just existing. the crawler (in the book) doesn't attack the biologist, it barely knows she's there iirc, what happens only happens because thats what happens when she goes near it. and then the creature in the lighthouse (from the movie) doesnt attack either at all, all it does is divide and replicate, like the cancer cells talked about in the start of the movie, without a self destruct button. so it's just there, creating, and only becomes part of lena because she's near it so part of her dna gets absorbed into it via a blood droplet. n like, obviously its all vry metaphorical (lena chooses to destroy her self, the alien, so she can move on as someone different but still the same body, still the same. unlike all the others with her and kane she didn't self destruct as an end to herself, she self destructed as an act of accepting change and trauma .. .etc etc)

but also!! i love the idea of aliens being treated as non-hostile, just existing, because we arent the centre of the universe, we are all just here and its not about us. like in the movie lena is asked "what did it want?" and she replies "i dont think it wanted anything?" and she's told "it attacked you" and she replies "i dont think it even knew i was there". its so interesting to me!! i love that sm. . also i just like this whole bit so im putting it here:
