LOL no. Well, okay, one. But it’s one that can’t be used anyway because it’s too patchworky -- every 10 masks or so I make an “art mask” that’s not really meant to be worn, and that’s one of those.

What happened to the Singer machine, what is the make and model of the new one, and have you named it yet?

The old Fashionmate is sitting next to the workbench; I’m going to give it a good wipe down and store it somewhere, because after all it is still functional and it’s good to have a spare :D The new one is also a Singer, the QUANTUM STYLIST, and I got it open-box for slightly cheaper than it’s going for now. I haven’t named it; I never named the old one, it was always just The Sewing Machine, but perhaps I will come up with one. 

I was advised against getting a Singer because the quality has gone down, and most of the parts aren’t metal anymore, but I realized that while I do care about quality I also do a fairly limited amount of fairly simple sewing, so I didn’t need anything more durable than this one. I do have all kinds of heart eyes over it; it’s got a drop-in bobbin, threading is super easy, there’s even a needle-threader lever, and it has both tacked start-stop with a push of a button, and an automatic thread trimmer. I’m very excited about it. :D And it only took me about an hour to get from “opening the box” to “fully functional sewing machine I know how to use” which was my real worry.

What's the difference between this and alioli?

Aioli usually still makes use of an egg as an emulsifier, then has garlic added for flavor. I mean depending on your definition of aioli you could certainly call it that, but it’s just...also known as toum. :D

*squints* Oh hey, I literally just bought that same food processor, only in red! It just arrived yesterday, glad it comes with a Sam seal of approval for when I get a chance to try it out ;)

Have you looked into renting DVC points? My friend and I got two weeks at the Polynesian for the price of one of the budget resorts by renting DVC points. It was amazing.

I went up to Portland w/ the fam to see my Uncle who was in town and had a lot of fun. He bought me super cute boots and I’m basically in love with them.

Yeah, from what I’ve seen so far it looks like he’s mostly drawing from CharlotteLennox, who did her due diligence inasmuch as she could. Having been on the inside for some of this I have some opinions about the appearance of objectivity versus the actual fact of it, but airing those would only make the entire situation more awkward rather than less, and a lot of the people involved are either still in fandom or in media-centric careers and don’t really need more agony dredged up.

Thank you for being so open about this. This exact post is something I desperately needed to see 5-6 years ago (same story different verse: I had to learn how to 'waste' time bc I'd been taught that if I couldn't finish a task in a few hours it Wasn't Worth Doing)

Well, I was open enough about it at the time, no reason to be less now. Sounds like you got the help you needed and if I can help someone else to that, I’m happy to!

Granted I'm not SUPER into the current GO fandom, but from what I've seen Gabriel/Beelzebub is the (distant) second most popular ship in the fandom. Like all good villains, Gabriel has no shortage of devoted fans.

Sam, did you see the video of Christine McConnell making a gingerbread replica of the Winchester Mansion? It's real good craft porn.

I believe I did! I just love the real thing so much. I went to see the Winchester movie not knowing it was a horror film, but it was totally worth sitting through a mediocre horror film for the exterior shots of the house itself. They did a bunch of drone flyovers and took some really beautiful footage.

Oh, for the SSN, definitely no dashes. It doesn’t even get you to the rejection page if you enter dashes!

Did your DD go through yet? I filled that out a couple days ago and still haven't seen a deposit. I'm also struggling to get DD to work for unemployment so I'm trying to figure out if it's an error on my end or just a slow-moving process.

I assume once they have my info it’ll be a few days -- at least until the business week begins again. The process is definitely VERY SLOW, so if it’s any consolation, it’s not you, it’s them. Probably.

Huh. See, if you had come to my library and asked for a card, that's... pretty much exactly how i would input that address into our system, with the possible exception of changing South to S and everything has to be in caps. It's the post office's preferred format, is what I was told in training.

Well, yeah, 401 S. Starbuck St. makes sense, I have no beef with that. It’s just really weird that you would abbreviate “street” but not the directional, especially when that doesn’t match what’s on the tax return, which is what the IRS explicitly tells you is likely to be your best bet. 

Like, neither or both I understand, and I would even KIND OF understand S. but not St., but abbreviating the road and not the directional feels completely insane to me. How is one meant to guess that?

What struck me as super interesting about seeing the presses going is that it’s like, there’s layers and layers of security, no photography allowed, very strict rules, but the guys running the presses are like...every dude in every machine/wood shop I’ve ever met. Big burly working-class union guys who are using a spare 2x4 to prop up the part that never quite sits where it’s supposed to in the machine and wash their tupperware in the dump sink.

I’m not sure it could be written, is the thing. Like you could write it in the sense of novelizing the play, or you could write it into the play with a shitload of stage directions, but I don’t think either would be truly satisfying. I might do some kind of larger treatment of it, though, somehow.

Rescues will take old sheets and towels, if you’re replacing yours! They won’t care if they have holes.

Oh, good to know! Usually I reuse them -- I never lack for uses for fabric -- but that’s the kind of info it’s good to pass on.

When you buy new sheets, please review them! I need new ones but I’m afraid I won’t like whichever ones I buy

Which is one reason I haven’t bought yet -- sheets are kind of pricey, and often cheaper online, but I don’t want to buy sheets I can’t touch-test ahead of time. Especially since I’m shopping for lightweight summer sheets and all the ones I like the look of turn out on closer inspection to be flannel :P

I have oft considered stealing the “Dearborn and Polk” corner street sign, but it just seems like so much work :D Thwarted by my own laziness, that’s me.

Have you looked into dissipative gloves? They're not quite on par with a grounding bracelet, but they're pretty good at dampening shocks.

I’d never heard of them! But I looked them up and....they have a real supervillain look about them :D Not sure the cats would enjoy them either.

You should probably invest in a decent humidifier, to help with the static. Also with your sinuses. Chicago is pretty dry, anyway, but it’s so much worse in the winter.
