because ew gay people are icky, duh //sarcasm
ahahaha don't you love the argument that people try to make that gay people are more likely to spread stds

It’s not only people of religion who disagree with homosexuality; if you were raised an atheist you could be just as homophobic. Also, it’s sort of a problem because you can’t just disqualify hundreds of thousands of the nation’s votes based on views
true, but i feel like the people who oppose gay marriage on a non-religion-based opinion are easier to sway. i'm not sure of whatever reason they might have for opposing gay marriage but i still feel like they'd be more ok if gay marriage were to be nationally legalised than people with religion-based opposition would be
anyway what do you mean by "nation's votes"? people aren't exactly "voting" for gay marriage- it's more of an addition to the campaigns of government officials, if at all, since people's stances on this topic is largely guided by personal beliefs.

its explicitly unconstitutional for the federal govt to regulate marriage i think
is it? (i was shit at civics haha if it really was explicitly said in one of the amendments, then i completely missed it) i know it's more of a state's right to regulate marriage b/c they distribute marriage licenses but i don't think it's unconstitutional on the federal level. the supreme court determined a lot of gay marriage decisions that states had huge disputes over, and the supreme court on the federal level.
