Who is a real hero ? She who has controlled her mind and senses, who has annihilated the cravings, who has attained Self-realisation, is a real hero of heroes. A liberated sage, a dynamic Yogi, is the real hero of heroes, indeed! Ordinarily, ignorant people of the world say that she who has renounced the world is a timid individual who cannot earn her livelihood. This is a sad and terrible mistake. It is very difficult to renounce family, children, relations, possessions, property, wealth, One in a million only can take to renunciation. Now, take out all the leaders of the world and put them in solitude for a year in a forest. They will feel like fish out of water. They cannot remain. They will run back to the world within a week without informing their Guru. Such is their spiritual strength!
You must show extreme contempt towards worldly objects. Treat all earthly possessions and sensuous enjoyments as dung, poison, dust and straw. Turn the mind away from them. Even if you become the sole monarch of the whole world, you cannot enjoy real bliss and peace. By the worldly affections, by the avarice of wealth and by the attachment to external fleeting forms and beauties, the mind gets fattened, while indifference to them thins it out! (Yoga Vasishta). Desire is not gratified by indulgence. On the other hand it increases like fire after a pouring of ghee over it. All the wheat and maize grown in the world, all wealth, all cattle will not be sufficient to gratify the desire of one person. Knowing this, a wise individual should control her mind.
To attain to an exalted state of spirituality, you should in the first instance fully realize the glory of life in the Spirit or the Soul. Then only will you have the requisite strength to kick and spurn this world mercilessly and take to a life of meditation and of renunciation. Constant remembrance of and meditation on the following Slokas of the Bhagavadgita will help you to a great extent in the attainment of your goal: She whose self is unattached to external contacts, and findeth joy in the Self, having the self harmonised with the Eternal by Yoga, enjoys happiness exempt from decay (Ch. V-21). Worldly people always speak against renunciation! Even a cobra is not so very dangerous as these deluded people!
How can you know the glory of the destruction of Maya, Realisation of God? You want to eat, drink and enjoy all day and night! You are immersed in sensual pleasures. There is no dispassion. That is why you are afraid to renounce the world. You try to justify your worldliness through foolish arguments! The deluded attachment to friends and relatives, money and gold, has to be ruthlessly burnt to ashes! All the so-called duties of the world have to be kicked away for the sake of that glorious state of Self-realisation. The Mahabharata proclaims that for the sake of Self-realisation the whole world should be renounced without any hesitation. Why do you roll in this miserable Samsara? Are you not ashamed? You must break the chains of earthly bondage, the bondage of birth and death, old age and disease, hunger and thirst! That is courage, that is heroism! Do not be cowards; start now; fight against worldly delusion against the mind and the senses!
The parents nowadays are irresponsible. They are deluded and think they are educating their children, allow them to rot in delusion, worldliness and passion! If there are five children, the parents want all of them to become barristers and judges! There is vanity at the root of all this. O! if at least one of your children has the glorious fortune to open her inward eye, realize the futility of life in the world, renounce all her desires and attachments and take to the wise path of Self-realization, she has done the greatest duty to her parents; she has opened the doors of Salvation to seven generations before and seven generations after in her family; she has become a centre of worship and adoration to all her country-people! What is the use of physical service, fighting for social and political freedom, when everybody is locked up in the jail of egoistic delusion? Even so is all this activity and business of life in this world which is only an airy nothing in reality, but is taken to be a solid true existence by the gross-minded ones. Therefore, exert and try to realize your Self!
Bhakti - Love and Devotion
"Saints and sages say: 'Happiness is not to be found outside or in the things outside. So if you truly want happiness, then turn outwards to inwards (stop searching happiness outside and search it within yourself), i.e, do the 'bhakti' of the Almighty; try to find him within. Real happiness lies in knowing thyself. Goswami Tulsidas Ji Maharaj says:
"'Jimi thal binu jal rahi na sakai| Koti bhanti keu karai uupai Tatha Moksha sukh sunu khagrai| Rahi n sakai Hari bhagati bihai' ('As water canтАЩt exist without land, similarly Mukti or Moksha can't be without the bhakti of God.')
"We must steadfastly hold this in our minds that the Param Prabhu Paramatma (the Almighty) is pure bliss. Knowing him will bring true happiness, and nothing else can. In addition to that we must know that the Almighty can only be known through his bhakti."
-- Maharshi Santsevi Paramhansaji Maharaj, Satya-Kya? (What is Truth?)

God realization
Nakshatra Soni
In the Guru Granth Sahib, Naam is referred to as nectar, by drinking of which the soul becomes immortal. So, where do we get that nectar? When we follow the instructions of the Master and we work on those instructions day and night and we withdraw our attention and come to the Tenth Door, there we manifest the Radiant Form of the Master. And with His Grace, He manifests the Sound Current and we get the nectar. There is nothing else in this world that is as intoxicating and as attractive as Naam. Only Naam has the ability to satiate the mind. Otherwise, the mind does not get satisfied with anything. If we have millions and millions of rupees, we still want more. Likewise, if we have houses, we want more houses. We want bigger families. In all respects, the mind always wants more. So, it is not ever satisfied. Only when the Naam is manifested, is the mind satiated. When the Sound Current is manifested, the mind becomes quiet тАФ it gets satiated completely. Otherwise, the mind, which is running around like a horse тАФ or faster than a horse in all directions тАФ that becomes still and quiet and gets completely satisfied. Then, the mind also realizes it's true self. It understands where it has come from. So, it is an essence of God and that is what it realizes when it gets in connection with the Sound Current.

Seven Stages of Mystic Ascension to Heaven According to Sant Mat
1. Praise or Bhakti (singing praises: banis, bhajans, kirtans, odes, psalms, hymns);
2. Prayer (Communion With God -- Conversations With God);
3. Manas Japa (Simran, "Praying Without Ceasing", Mentally Repeating/Chanting the Name or Names of God -- Mantra -- the First Stage of Meditation);
4. Manas Dhyana (Visualizing the Form of the Master* -- the Second Stage of Meditation);
5. Dristi Sadhana (Seeing Inner Light at the Third Eye Center -- the Third Stage of Meditation);
6. Nada Sadhana (Hearing the Inner Sounds -- Surat Shabd Yoga -- the Fourth Stage of Meditation);
7. Reaching Kaivalya: Oneness with Soundlessness (Shabdatita Pad [beyond the Realm of Sound]), the Nameless One (ANAMI), the Formless Supreme Being, Supreme State, the Ocean of Love (beyond all forms, lights and sounds) -- the Fifth Stage of Meditation -- the Isht or Goal;
* Note: "Visualizing the Form of the Master": "In Kali Yuga no other spiritual activity will succeed. It is only the contemplation of the Satguru's Form, repetition of the Name of the Supreme Being, and concentration on Shabda [Spiritual Sound] that will be successful and beneficial". (Soamiji Maharaj, The Last Words)
Seven Principles of Sant Mat
The Following Principles Below are Recited Daily by Some in India:
1. Ultimate Reality is beyond any beginning or end, infinite, beyond birth, beyond the senses, all-pervading yet even beyond pervasiveness. It must, therefore, be understood as the Supreme Being. This Essential Element is known in Santmat [the Teachings of the Saints] as the Lord of All and is the foundation of all things. This Being is beyond both the inanimate and animate aspects of nature. It is without qualities and beyond qualities. Its nature is infinite, imperishable, all-powerful. It is beyond time and space, beyond sound and beyond form (Nirguna). It is the One without a second. The Supreme Being is beyond the scope of the mind, the intellect and the senses. This entire universe is powered by the energy of this Being. This Being is not human. It is not manifested in physical form. It has existence beyond the illusion of maya [illusion], and there is nothing that exists outside of it. It is the Being which is eternal and is in existence from the beginning. Santmat considers this Being to be the Divine Reality, and this [knowing or merging with] this Being is the goal of all spirituality.
2. The individual soul is an inseparable part of the Supreme Being.
3. The physical world of nature was created. It has an origin and an end.
4. The individual soul (jiva), bound by illusion (maya), remains in the cycle of death and birth. This is the cause of one's suffering. In order to escape from this cycle of death and birth we must experience realization of this Supreme Being.
5. By practicing devotion through these four techniques: Manas Japa (Simran, recitation of a divine name or names), Manas Dhyana (Dhyan, focus on the divine form), Dristi Sadhana (Yoga of Inner Light, Inner Seeing, Inner Light Meditation, focus on the Infinitesimal Point), and Nadanusandhana Yoga (Surat Shabd Yoga, concentration on the inner divine Sounds) -- the practitioner consecutively transcends the realms of darkness, Light, and Sound which cloak the Supreme Truth -- the Divine Reality. Only in a human body an individual soul is able to achieve unity with the Divine. [In other forms of existence, animal, etc..., it is not possible to tread the spiritual path.]
6. Lying, stealing, intake of intoxicating substances, adultery, and violence (including harming other beings) are the five sins to be avoided. Eating meat or fish is also considered to be a form of violence and should be avoided. The aspirants of Santmat must abstain from these vices.*
* Note: In Buddhism and other Eastern Religions (Jainism, Taoism, Hinduism) these five abstinences are known as the Panch Shila -- "The Five Precepts".
7. The following are considered to be the requirements for the attainment liberation: (A) Trust and belief in God; (B) Commitment to seek the Divine within; (C) Devotion and service to a Satguru -- spiritual Master; (D) Satsang, listening to the teaching and spiritual discourse including study of the Teaching of the Saints and the scriptures; and (E) Dhyana, diligent meditation practice. ("Padavali of Maharshi Mehi", also quoted in, "Harmony Of All Religions")

The Spiritual Teachings of Sant Dariya Sahib of Bihar
The Teachings of Sant Dariya Sahib could be summarized as these three:
1. Right Gahani (Understanding) 2. Right Rahani (Living) 3. Simran (Mindfulness, Remembrance, Meditation)
The Sant has advocated two paths only for attainment of Nirvana:
1) The Path of Knowledge [Inner Experience], and, 2) The Path of Bhakti (Love and Devotion) (Dariya Sahib Website)
тАЬBe not intimidated by any fear. Hold fast to the Naam [The Light and Sound], which is always there to help.тАЭ (Sant Dariya Sahib)
тАЬThe Lord is my Beloved, Who is close to the heart of the lover. He is seen in each heart, In each heart His palace is alike. I have told you again and again, He is seen close by, although seems far off. The One who has built this house (body), Dwells within it and is ever present there.тАЭ (Sant Dariya Sahib)
The inner moon is the luminous lamp, In the Light of which the lover finds the Beloved.
A great rejoicing goes on within the inner Garden, And the sight of the dear Beloved pleases the heart. One thus enters the Abode of the Lord, And serves at his door as a true Saint.
Let your heart be the mirror, Within it will be seen your unparalleled Home. Your true Home is visible in this mirror, And therein is seen a Refulgent Form. (Sant Dariya Sahib)
тАЬThose souls who remain in obedience to these successors, Shall cross the Ocean of the world. How long will this line of succession continue? Kindly relate it to us in your own words, asks Fakkar Das. Listen mindfully, 0 Fakkar Das, I explain this to you, says Dariya: As long as the discipline of the Sound Current is preserved unadulterated, The line of succession will truly continue. But when it is mixed with outer rituals and display of external garbs, My Sound Current will part company. My Divine essence will depart, And the souls will go into the mouth of Kal. I shall then come to this world, And shall proclaim the teaching of the Sound Current again. Proclaiming the teaching, I shall found the line of succession. And emancipating the souls, I shall take them to my Abode. For aeons I have been coming, And imparting the teaching of the true Sound Current.тАЭ (Sant Dariya Sahib of Bihar)
тАЬIn one of his books, Dariya claimed himself to be Saint Kabir in his previous birth.тАЭ (Dr. Dharmendra Brahma-chari Shastri, who published a research paper on the Sant for his Doctor of Philosophy thesis called тАЬSant Dariya Kabir of BiharтАЭ) Many believe the great sage Sant Dariya Sahib was the reincarnation of Guru Kabir. In any case, it can be said that Sant Dariya Sahib helped keep the Path of Kabir (Sant Mat) alive during this age of Kali Yuga.
