Maggie paled, her palms began to sweat, her heart thudding painfully against her ribcage.
All of her resolve draining out of her body as that horrible, god awful melody was hummed only a few feet away with no particular rhythm or urgency.
She wasn’t ready.
All those years of preparing that had finally led her here and she wasn’t ready.
The longer she listened to that terrible song, the more the years fell away until Maggie was nine again and had been reduced to the same state of terror as she had been as a child when he…No! She couldn’t let herself remember - not now!
Her legs weren’t working. Why weren’t they working!?
'Run.' Maggie thought desperately, pleading with her body to respond to the urgency of the situation, ‘RUN GOD DAMN IT!’
Finally a response came and she clumsily jogged forward - seeking desperately for somewhere to hide from the holy terror nipping at her heels
