They were best friends since childhood. When they were little kids, they lived next door to each other, so they hung out a lot.
When they would play, Dee would come up with a lot of stories and games, and she’d be the one explaining the rules and telling Manuel how to play the part.
As they got a bit older, they learned that they could turn some of the things they were passionate about into career opportunities. It soon became their dream to work together as a power team.
Dee used to have a “crush” on Manuel, but realized fairly soon that she didn’t actually feel that way about him.
Manuel, however, had a genuine crush on her. It went away for a while (and he would occasionally chuckle to himself about how weird it was that he used to have a crush on her), but when they got older, his feelings returned even stronger. He mostly kept quiet about it, and when it was clear that she didn’t feel the same towards him, he let his feelings fade as much as they could.
There’s a lot of shady business in the entertainment industry and among the connections that influential people in that industry have. One thing led to another, and the two of them discovered that they’d stand a much better chance of breaking into the business--and having protection and power over anyone with a bad rep--if they made some connections themselves...
Cue the mafia! Or, should I say, the smuggling ring! They were both involved, but Dee ended up getting much more involved than Manuel, due to the benefits it offered her. She was quite fond of having that level of power and influence, and it wasn’t long before her diligence resulted in her being fairly prestigious within the local ring.
Obviously, they managed to break into the entertainment business. They were quite the duo until the events in 2011.
