Gizmo redemption arc is canon and real trust
I can see Gizmo try to learn Spanish to impress Menos but also to show off how smart he is. I can also see Gizmo being able to verbally express his feelings more in Spanish since no one except people who are fluent and/or can translate Spanish would understand him.
