Sherlock in Palermo
So, here is Sherlock, having retreated into the shadow of a large Ficus tree to go through his case notes. John took the picture with his phone after he walked around the Giardino Garibaldi and admired the small monuments and busts spread across it.
This was inspired by @totallysilvergirl 's and @7-percent 's new story that takes place in Italy and Silvergirl's older story 'The Nearer Your Destination' that takes place in Sicily and Palermo. Also a nod to anyone else (@janeofcakes - thank you for the hint @totallysilvergirl) who places our boys in Sicily.
I tried to imagine Sherlock in Palermo and the first thing that came to mind is the bright sun (even in early spring) and the constant noise. Both things he might need to escape from now and then. The Giardino Garibaldi is a small retreat located between a marina and the Ortho Botanico (botanic garden). I took the background picture years ago (before access to the trees was restricted) and the amazing tree is a Ficus macrophylla, as far as I know. It grows also horizontally and lowers aerial roots from its branches that then become kind of tree trunks. One can find those amazing trees all over Sicily.
I worked all my life with Photoshop but this time I tried doing a manip in Krita. There was more 'painting' involved than I expected, but it works well.
